Hey guys, I run a forum (Vbulletin) with about 1000+ members and the mysql database is pretty large. Recently, I had to switch hosts so I went to the backups part of cPanel and then clicked on Generate/Download a full backup. I uploaded the homedirectory with no problems through FTP. I went into the full backup file and looked through the folder to "mysql" folder. I see one big .sql file. I upload that file, fix the changes in config.php as needed in vBulletin, and when I try to get to the forum home page, it gives me a vBulletin error. Was I suppose to download a mysql database or did I do the right thing and generate a full backup. When extracting the 15mb .sql file to upload, it shows up as a text file. I need help! Someone who has knowledge please help!

I can help, just need to know a few things:

Do you have phpMyadmin installed?
It would be easier for me to look at the SQL file to see where your at, but I would rather not so I need you to open the .sql file in something like notepad or whatever you use.

Tell me if you see any of the following:

Create
Insert
Update
Drop

Did you already install Vbulletin again?

Fill me in and I would be more than happy to help. =)

Hey M3, I looked through the .sql file and saw those 4 things you posted on there. Do I need to reinstall vBulletin? I remember last time I switched hosts, all I needed to do was reupload the homedirectory and upload the sql database. And yes I have phpMyAdmin installed. If I need help this badly, I would let someone go into my hosting account to do the fix for me there.

Also you should check if your new hosts MYSQL version is the same as your lasts

What I found out is that my backup is in a .MYI format which can only be restored by my host. I downloaded the wrong backup file. If anyone has time, I could send you my backup and they can pull out the real database backup that can be restored by myself via cPanel.

I would love to help you out. I tried to PM you earlier but you have it disabled.
