Pop the cd in and install over the top. Were you trying to uninstall Internet Explorer?

I'd blame "54 Script" .. hehe j/k I'd reinstall IE (just to get rid of the error), it sounds like it's missing something (like you tried to uninstall) but microsoft made IE integral to Windows so they could convince the courts to let them leave it in windows.

Then I'd use opera! :D

First, backup your data. Then try to uninstall and reinstall IE. Even though IE is part of the OS, Windows will allow you do drop down to a lower version (assuming the uninstall files are on your local drive) and then you can reinstall IE6.

The reason I mention to backup your data is because, in my experience, Windows 2000 has a bad habit of corrupting when the simplest of errors occur. I've had to reinstall entire PC's before when the first sign of errors start to occur in 2000. Just my recommendation, though.

K.I.S.S. first!

If it's doing this near the end of booting up, it probably means those programs are set to start when windows start. There 'might' not be anything wrong with your system but a few missing short cuts.

Because Win2K does not have MSCONFIG, you must do this manually by looking at your "STARTUP" folder for broken links and remove them and also check your registry for offending apps that starts from there from the below 2 keys:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Wicrosoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wicrosoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\

I would just save all the data and format... what version of IE are you using?

Usually, in my experience, when these types of problems occur, others are sure to follow in Windows 2000. Sad to say but a reinstall of the entire system may not be too far into the future. Before doing that, try reinstalling IE first. The only problem I see with this is that because the program is technically installed, many of the files for the install process won't overwrite existing files. That's because they are already there and the install process will just skip them. Hopefully the file causing these problems (or the registry entry) is gone completely and will be re-added during this process.

Good luck...

In add/remove programs, choose IE. Only then will you get the options to Uninstall/Re-install/Repair.

I assume you tried to uninstall IE. Not a good idea as someone else said. MS made it a part of the OS. Wel technically it isn't but th, NEVERMIND.

Anyway download latest version of Internet Explorer from microsoft.com/ie. Click on the install file. Everything should be fine.

After that Download and use Mozilla... ;)

Well...

The simplest way to re-install IE would be to re-download and re-install it....

http://download.microsoft.com/download/IE60/fnlrtw/ie6/W98NT42KMe/EN-US/ie6setup.exe

There's the link...

exactly what I was going to say.. try to repair it first. That *should* reconnect all the dots so Windows know where to look for IE. MS is pretty good at repairs, as long as your CD's handy.

I still say download the latest version so you can enjoy all of the new bugs microsoft has made for you... ;)

If repairing works I would go that way but you will probably still have to download and reinstall.

Let us know how it goes...
