Hi everyone, I'm looking for some reccomendations on what company to go with. I'm a website designer and up until now I've been referring all my clients to asmallorange.com however I realized that I'm loosing out on additional income by not hosting them myself.

I'm not looking to be a big hosting company, I just want to offer this service to my existing clients.

Any suggestions for what company to go with for a reseller account? I'd rather not spend a fortune on this since I'm not going to be hosting a lot of accounts right off the bat.

Thank you in advance!

While this is a great way to make income, it is important to take into account that it is not as easy as it seems. You need keep on top of billing, monitor sites, provide support etc. Therefore although you will be receiving extra income, the amount of work required does increase. However, if you are up to the job, then go for it :)

Other options to consider is using an affiliate program, maybe one that offers recurring commission?

Hi there.

I would simply pay attention to posts about different webhosts here , then consider how much space you need and choose a plan.

If the sites you create are 5-10 page brochure type websites then they won't need much technical support-- so that will be easy.

If you have e commerce and more active sites I would consider going with a host with 24/356/7 enduser support

Best

I basically do a lot of 5-10 page sites, lots of service industry types, not many e-commerce requests. My usage would be pretty low, these sites don't get a ton of traffic and they are fairly simple so I wouldn't expect a lot of support needed.

However, I am pretty much "on call" for my clients anyway if they have a problem so I wouldn't have any trouble providing support if needed. I realize that offering hosting means some extra work on my part.

Stealth devil, you mentioned affiliate programs, do you know of any good ones? I might be willing to go that route.

I don't know any recurring commission affiliate program, but I know dreamhost has one of the highest pay out affiliate programs around..

Obviously, just like choosing a reseller, you should research such hosts...

A Small Organge have reseller plans too, take a look at http://asmallorange.com/services/hosting/reselling.php

I noticed that, but they don't offer overselling there. For sites with such low usage, I'm not sure I'd be getting the most for my money there.

I recommend WingSix.com, they are owned by ServerCentral (reviews on WHT) which is well known for their excellent service.

I've had a reseller account with WingSix for nearly a year and the uptime/customer service couldn't be better. (ServerCentral.net is in the Chicago Equenix datacenter.)
