View Full Version : HELP PLEASE!
OnlinePromoter.com 02-19-2001, 04:53 PM I had a dedicated server with UltaSpeedUSA and as we know BurstNet now owns all accounts. I have a dedicated server with them and all sites on my server are down. I can access the dedictaed server via Web Host Manager, but all sites are down.
I wrote burstnet with no response.
Any suggestions.
Sean
CRego3D 02-19-2001, 05:02 PM Make sure your DNS servers are working, try SSH into the main IP, and ping the ip's in there, if they are not, go into WHM, edit the dns zone, don't do any changes, just save it again (So it reloads), then restart bind
also, when you SSH into the main IP, try to ping any of your domains from within, see if they respond
if the problem is that you cannot access your domains even by IP, run /etc/rc.d/init.d/ipaliases .. see if that solves it
gosh .. there are so many things that can be wrong :(

jtan15 02-19-2001, 05:40 PM I agree here with JayC. If Apache fails to restart, check the error_log. This is usually located in /var/log/httpd/error_log. If it isn't there, run a:
find / -name error_log -print
Once you locate the file, execute "cat /path/to/error_log | tail". You should see the error message there. If you post the error, we should be able to figure out what needs to be changed. :)
OnlinePromoter.com 02-19-2001, 06:01 PM I'll pay someone $100 via PayPal to go in find a fix the problem. I've tried all I know(which is limited) and BurstNet is no help at all.
Any takers?
OnlinePromoter.com 02-19-2001, 06:02 PM Since my site is down please email me at slandry@socal.rr.com
Probably a dumb suggestion but have u tried re-booting it?
OnlinePromoter.com 02-19-2001, 06:19 PM I ususally had Daniel P from UltraSpeedUSA to handle all my tech support (he's great), but now BurstNet is taking care of it which is a joke. How do you reboot ther server?
Remember all process will stop and only those in the boot sequence will come back up (start again). So if something isn't set to start at boot it will not run. You might miss it if it is to do with the network card for example as you will not be able to connect to the server. Unlikely in my oppinion but a risk, depends on how it is configured.
This is how I do it, no idea if it is right.
as root
/usr/sbin/shutdown -r -t time now
-r means restart
and the rest is either mandatory or sending a message to all users saying now.
That is assuming shutdown is where it is on my server. If it isn't just type
whereis shutdown
and it will tell you where it is.
I only know about RedHat Linux so hope that is what u have got.

OnlinePromoter.com 02-19-2001, 06:56 PM Thanks DanielP. I can't wait to transfer my server to venturesonline.com

Chicken 02-20-2001, 01:12 AM Kudos to Daniel for not leaving his past client in a bind (yes he may eventually get something out of it, but maybe that's all good and right). Anyway, I love seeing people help eachother out (what often happens on this board), and this is just another example of how the forum isn't going to hell, heh. :)
Peace be with you all...
BurstNET 02-23-2001, 08:26 PM What was your support ticket number?
I want to check on this issue.
It is possible you didn't confirm your server with us by that point, and we did not have root access yet to your machine, and thus couldn't assist you yet.

I hate to say this because I normally don't like to get in on things, but I think in a situation like this, you should have contacted the customer if they haven't comfirmed. I'm sure they would have been more than happy to give you root access if you didn't have it. They had to hire a third party to handle a technical issue when it was your company's responsibility. That definately says something to me and I'm sure it also does to alot of other hosts on this board.
BurstNET 02-24-2001, 09:06 PM The customers have been contacted...that is how they were informed to confirm in the first place. We cannot supply support to just anyone that asks for it, they need to be actual clients...with information on file. Due to the fact that Ultraspeed USA did not provide us with proper records and client information, we had no idea what site/server belonged to which client. We were supplied with a list of clients, and a list of sites/servers (without passwords). When the clients confirm, we associate sites/servers with clients, and can then provide support as needed.
All we could do is email clients, and wait for confirmation.
Our hands were tied until we sorted thru the Ultraspeed USA mess.
Once again, please do not assume such things, unless you have factual knowledge.
BurstNET™ provides technical support to all of our clientele. The fact that an individual decides to hire out to a third party is of their own choice. If client does not provide us with necessary information, or changes root password to a server without supplying it to us, there is not much that we can do to assist.
