I'm just evaluating x-cart for the next web project and need to know if the temple files can be change locally on my side with textpad or do I have to use the template editor through the admin section?

You can edit them offline if you wish, then simply FTP them to your skin1 folder.

You can modify them either way. Using the online editor is kinda cool in that you can reset the template to the default settings if something gets screwed up (Or you can d/l the original and fix any mistakes). The WYSIWYG editor works pretty well for some of the templates. With others a text editor works best. Any method you want to use is fine.

yeah.. i use dreamweaver to edit .. it isn't visual in the sense that you see the site in all its glory but at least you see the layout and its easy to edit.. theres also a backup folder that has the original files in case you screw up and their forums are pretty responsive and informative
