View Full Version : Plesk is the worst CP ever
Embrance 05-27-2007, 08:10 AM I tried it once and didnt like it. Now I tried it for a second time and it seems even worse. I have not even a single clue one how to do thing, namely how to add DNS records etc.
On cPanel and DirectAdmin is was easy as hell. But here...
Parameters that dont have even a hint on what they do and what to add. Just some MX records here and there.
The help file just tell you what you can add but not what is needed to be added for something to work.
Im so frustrated...
yphost 05-27-2007, 08:46 AM i suggest you get in contact with someone who knows plesk well,
some of your friends maybe who can guide you for free,
you can even read a few tutorials ...
tutorials are abundant all over the internet..
you will find using plesk just as easy i am sure..
Adam H 05-27-2007, 10:30 AM Well i googled it and it came up with this.

MACscr 05-27-2007, 02:49 PM If you need a manual to do basic things with a piece of software, then it has a horrible UI design in my honest opinion.

Sorry, have to call BS on this thread.
Login as the client:
Click Domain Name from list:
Click "DNS":
Click "Add DNS Record"
Select the Type of DNS
Type in the Record you want to add.
Click add.
You don't need a manual, you need common sense and to realize that it "ISN'T" cPanel so there will be differences.
MACscr 05-27-2007, 03:07 PM XSI-Larry,
I apologize for any confusion as I was more making a general statement and I have no experience with plesk besides playing with the demo a bit. Just feel that poor UI's are very common these days and having to dig for documentation to do basic things gets a bit frustrating. I was more relating to the OP and stating my own opinion as well.
KNL-BSW 05-27-2007, 03:19 PM I didn't exactly mean to quote you MACscr, I was more refering to the entire thread.
He is calling it a bad control panel because he doesn't have enough common sense to read the domain name which shows as a hyper link, then see the icon which says "DNS" and click it, then see the icon which says "Add DNS Record" and click it.
If a person is adding DNS records they should already know what type they need to add and the information to enter in there, no control panel I know of helps with this part.
Embrance 05-27-2007, 11:47 PM XSI->Common sense? When all other CPs do that automatically why should I dig the docs and forums to find some info on how to do basic things on Plesk?

Do what automatically? Plesk adds the same DNS records as other control panels.
It's no harder to use than cPanel for DNS.
common sense would and 5 minutes looking around since you weren't used to layout would have shown you where to look.
If you are talking about aliases, that's done automatically.
if you are talking about subdomains, done automatically.
I may be missing it but I can't find anywhere in cPanel (I'm not mentioning WHM) where you can edit the DNS.
In WHM it doesn't autofill anything that I have ever seen, other than what is already there.
Faltzer 05-28-2007, 10:50 AM I wouldn't use Plesk, maybe because I never had luck getting anything accomplished with it. I had trouble with DNS, MySQL and Apache. Hosting accounts were NEVER created. Things with Plesk never worked out with me. Although I would have liked to use this control panel if I didn't experience these errors. Another thing, this is over-priced software. These people think their software is golden, when it actually isn't.
KNL-BSW 05-28-2007, 11:02 AM Overpriced? Then I guess cPanel is way over priced.
Faltzer 05-28-2007, 01:40 PM cPanel is worth the price, compared to Plesk.
KNL-BSW 05-28-2007, 02:11 PM cPanel is worth the price, compared to Plesk.
And there are many who would disagree, myself being one of them.
Embrance 05-28-2007, 02:19 PM Well I believe cPanel is overpriced as well, but anyway. The mid-solution for me at least,is DA. Good pricing, good set of features.
Cpanel is the best compared to all.
jbwebhosting 05-28-2007, 06:03 PM cPanel is worth the price, compared to Plesk.
cPanel is horribly overpriced especially compared to Plesk! Contact a SWsoft rep and get some pricing on Plesk for VZ and compare that to cPanel's same virtualization pricing, Plesk blows cPanel out of the water. Even dedicated server pricing is much better on the Plesk side of things, just don't buy all their crap addons and install them yourself, for example, Tomcat, Antivirus, etc...

What kind of problems did you have specifically with MySQL and Apache?
Faltzer 05-28-2007, 07:49 PM I'd best pay for an overpriced software that has more than what an overpriced software that has what I do not need. Finally, as for my errors, it was set up by the company I was once hosted with. I left Plesk, because their support lacks what I require for my type of business.
[Axelsson] 02-29-2012, 06:50 AM lol, I agree. Plesk is a worthless piece of ****. I regret getting a server with this crap.
manhalab 02-29-2012, 10:14 AM Yes, I agree cpanel is far more user friendly but comparatively costly. Plesk is easy to use once you get accustomed to its interface and working. Most people say that cpanel is much better than any other due to the mere fact that they are not accustomed to any other panels.
