The train image does look good. :agree:

BTW, I found what site it reminds me of. The old availhosting.com site, which I believe is no longer in business.

We used to do design and as it turns out, I was the one who did the site for the guy who ran Avail.

When Avail went under I thought it was such a nice layout that I may as well revive the concept and spice it up a little for Front Drive.

Thanks for the compliments guys :)

If a client signs on, are the monthly hosting fees and features (bandwidth, etc.) "locked" as long as they stay with that plan or are they subject to future increases should that happen?

As soon as you sign up, your price and features are locked in for as long as you are a customer of Front Drive.

You may have an unlimited number of domains pointing your main domain. Those are "parked" domains. "Addon" domains differ in that they may point to subdirectories, and not just the main page.

Can I host 5 different domains at the same time with 5 different account in one plan?

deathlord

I beleive with the 10 Domains pointing to subdirectory's it could be a different site. I guess your allowed to have a totoal of 10 sites per account + subdomains. As long as its under 600mb Space. Im not positive about this, i guess we'll wait for a response.

digiguy

If the 10 domains only point to sub-dir, then it's a different story here.

Yes, the 10 domains point to a subdirectory. They act just like any other domain -- the only difference is that instead of using /public_html/ as its home directory, it will use /public_html/subdirectory/ as its home directory.

In your specs it says you have support for XML. What does this mean in detail. Do you have the newest expat/sablotron for example?

Also, where are you located? What upstream connections you have?

thanks

fdrive, is credit card the only method of payment you accept?

FDrive
07-24-2002, 12:33 PM
gawan: We do not currently have the expat/sablotron extensions installed. If you need them, I'd me more than happy to install them, provided that they do not interfere with the server's performance for other clients. We're located in California, the servers are in Scranton, PA. For info on the upstream, visit BurstNET's website: http://www.burst.net/

Sykus: The IMAP PHP extensions are installed, if that is what you are referring to. I'm aware of the PHP vulnerability, and forwarded that info to another admin yesterday. We should be running 4.2.2 by the end of the day.

phantom: HTTP streaming of Real Audio/Video is fully supported.

cynix: Yes, we only accept credit cards.

You can change the MX records for any of the 10 domains.

We do not allow adult content. You can read our terms of service at http://www.frontdrive.com/about/tos/

They can have separate FTP accounts, but you cannot control the amount of space that they are alloted. We do not allow that to prevent people from reselling our space, as we do not offer reseller plans.

Jay (the owner) is a good down to earth guy too... he isn't like many of the other hosting owners who think they need to talk like a robot to sound professional... I'll post another update in a few days letting everyone know how fast the servers are and stuff. But so far, AWESOME!!!

Thanks jay...

Can I pay annually in one payment, maybe with a small discount as is customary with some other hosts?

Secondly, do you recommend your services also to european customers (my current host is in NY, but I have had some problems with their POP3 when sending mail. I live in Europe).

As of the post of this date, the site is down

Yup, I concur, that web site IS down. And I have a question for fdrive...

Do you allow the installation of phpBB?

And from your web site: "Our datacenter has multiple connections from different backbone providers; huge fiber connections from the largest and most trusted providers around." I'm left to assume you mean UUNet, XO Communications, and Verio.... is this true?

JointComms
07-30-2002, 10:45 AM
FDrive hmmmmmmmmm. I signed up. It took close to 3 days to propogate - the longest ever for me.

You can install phpBB - I did. But had lots of problems. They had to install it themselves but I still can't restore the db.

2+ hours ago I filed a ticket that my site hosted there is down - www.jointcomms.com

Yesterday I tried to publish but the server droped connection - TWICE

Jay and staff might be the nicest people on earth but I need to be up 99.5% of the time?????

Their site is up but mine isn't. I might get hell from Jay for writing this but I've just been thru chaos with a previous host and I'm already feeling the pain in the first 72 hours.

Sorry Jay but that's the way I feel. If my experience changes, I'll be first in the list to say so.

Edit: I'LL TELL YOU WHAT WORKED THOUGH - AN E-MAIL TO THEIR EMERGENCY ACCOUNT SEEMS TO HAVE WORKED - WITHIN HALF HOUR THE SYSTEM IS BACK UP AND RUNNING Hope Jay doesn't decide to refuse me as a customer after this post.

FDrive
07-30-2002, 11:11 AM
You won't get hell from me at all -- your site was down, you have every right to be upset.

Up until around 5 minutes ago, Apache was running, just slowly. I gave Apache a quick reboot, and ran into a seg fault. So I had to recompile Apache, which took 15 minutes or so, resulting in that downtime.

It's running smooth as ever right now. So sorry about that!

I said I would be the first to make positive remarks. I know I've been giving them a difficult time with my needs and requirements but they have come out of it with flying colours.

Just today alone they have saved me hours of work. I don't know how they did it but, they were able to restore a database which I didn't want to loose.

Okey Okey I'm not in love or anything but I wanted to give unto Ceasar that which is Ceasar's

Do you plan on having a support forum sometime in the future?

I personally find this a bonus even when considering a host as it gives an outsider an idea on what kind of support they can expect and how clients are treated and whether it's in a timely manner or not.

Well, I once inquired on that same contact page about using their service, and never recieved a reply. (thats why I said 2checkout strikes out again)
I will instead call my bank tomorrow, and see what exactly is the syntax of my address. (pobox or po box ect.) Too bad they don't have an option to phone verify it. The name and address on the card is the same as the phone line.
After this card was fraudualently used by iBill, I would actually perfer questionable online charges be phone verified anyway.

Hi HeReDaGo,

To test the speed, try downloading this file: http://server1.frontdns.com/uumap.tar.Z

Generally we don't do custom plans, but if there are special circumstances then I don't see why we can't work something out. Send an email over to sales@frontdrive.com or contact me directly at jay@frontdrive.com if you want to discuss this further.

Fdrive ..

Just want to ask you about subdomian.
Assume I have main domain as c1.com .. and I can create unlimited subdomain on c1.com right ?

If I have one addtion domain as c2.com (domains pointing to subdirectories) ,.. is it also possible to create subdomain for c2.com ?
