I'm thinking of setting up a reseller account, but this will be my first time doing so. Recently a few people I know have asked me to develop a web site for them. Mostly personal, but one is for a small organization, but nothing I would call a business site though. In the past I would desing a site, and then walk them through the proces of signing up with a registrar and hosting company I like.

Now that I'm getting a few more request, I'm thinking of doing the design, domain registration and hosting myself. However, I'm not sure what my clients will need to do. For example, I'll still do the design, but should I also setup up their account (through my reseller) or have them do it their self. Since they are coming to me, I'm sure they have no idea what to do, thus I think I will have to do the process from start to finish.

Also, does any have any tips about when they first got started. At least for now, I think most of my business will be via word of mouth. Thus I want to make sure I take care of those I know I'll be working with, they'll be just signing up with me for desing, domain registartion and hosting.

Thanks for the help

Adding web hosting to your web design services is certainly a good value added extra..

Things you will need to work out are what prices to charge. In your case, you may be able to offer low specs, and charge decent prices as you won't have much competition.

You should decide how you are going to offer support, what control panel etc. you think your customers will like and begin researching a reliable host that can offer you reseller hosting..

Good luck :)

So far I'm looking at going with JodoHost as my reseller as I have been with them using hosting plans for almost 2 years and the 1 time I did have a problem it was resolve very quickly. Thus they are at the top of my short list. As for the cPanel to use, the clients I have steered to JodoHost only use the cPanel for billing purposes. All of the other stuff they have no idea so for now I don't think the will mind just as long as it is easy to adjust billing options. Support has been similar, but most often thses site are up and running with little maintance. As this grows, hopefully it will support will become more of and issue with larger sites.
