View Full Version : Hosting Multiple Counter-Strike Servers
N|Kitmitto 05-26-2007, 03:13 AM I didn't see any other forums to post this in, but recently I recieved access to a dedicated server and I am helping a friend out, I do not know how to host multiple counter-strike Source servers. If anyone has any suggestions, it would be greatly accepted!!
Thanks,
Nick
Mekhu 05-26-2007, 06:00 AM Hi Deadbeet,
Here is the section you want:
http://www.webhostingtalk.com/forumdisplay.php?f=123
You can report your own post and ask a mod to move it for you.
You will also notice some CS related threads in that section already! Some good reading.

Windows Servers tend to run Source Engine games better. Although I still like Linux over Windows. Also, Valve's last update proved that sometimes bugs on their Linux version tend to take lower priority and bugs slip through. Although, Linux dedicated servers far outnumber the Windows dedicated servers.
gstanley 05-27-2007, 06:20 AM Another thing is, CS Source generally over the last 24 months eats more and more CPU per each release/steam update. I remember when I could run multiple 32 slot servers on a opteron 270 and it wouldn't use that much CPU. Today, I'd be lucky to fit a 1x 20 slot server on 1 cpu before the process would eat all my cpu.
-=Godzilla=- 05-27-2007, 07:35 AM Hmm,
well I run a smallish game server fine on 2.8GHZ intel 1GB ram, unmeretd bandwdith.
It runs fine. if I can run a 16 slot @ 100tick server on thism you can too.
Adam H 05-27-2007, 07:43 AM I run a counterstrike source 66 tick , 20man server on a vps.
About 220mhz cpu power
gstanley 05-27-2007, 07:47 AM I should've mentioned the problems with the excess CPU usage on Source is for linux only, I'm not sure about windows.
