bizhostz 05-24-2007, 04:08 PM What is the best way to advertise for a web hosting company. I am brand new to the business and used to do reseller hosting from some company that offered unlimited everything. I guess you can figure out what happened. There server overloaded and they shut down and I lost all of my customers. I am starting out on a clean slate.
What do you think is the best way. Alot of people in the world don't even know what web hosting is, so is it a good idea to put all advertising on the internet or should you do SOME local advertising.
What do you think the best online advertising is? SEO is obviously what alot of people are gonna say but ways to advertise when you are not an SEO expert and cant get in the top 20 of Google in 1 day... lol
Give me some ideas.
Thanks everyone.
sharwood 05-24-2007, 06:23 PM Advertising for hosting on the internet is some completely saturated, it is very difficult to get any mileage out of the traditional techniques (banners, text links, etc). You're probably (imo) better off doing some local advertising, partnering with a web design company, develop creative viral messages, pay affiliates large amounts per sale, etc.
Word of mouth trumps them all so I would suggest doing the things that will get people (your customers) talking positively about your service and company and recommending you to others.
demowolf 05-24-2007, 07:58 PM Become an expert. Try writing articles or even press releases about your company. Articles can be about anything web hosting related. Then submit your articles to directories, etc for inclusion. That's a good way to get some links starting to point back to your site, and it helps promote you as an expert in your field.
Best of luck :)
ZaxiHosting 05-26-2007, 06:29 PM Google Adwords is the best way.
For about 30€/day you can have a good amount of traffic,so good amount of clients!(about 30% of google referalls, sign up)

What is your target market? If you can share that, I am sure that I and others can give you some ideas.
brett4life 05-26-2007, 11:42 PM Yeah some more info would help us answer better.
x86brandon 05-26-2007, 11:51 PM Welcome to the board. Just remember to try to have something to set you apart from the others.
gimpson 05-28-2007, 02:26 AM mIRC has been a huge success for my company. I have gotten a lot of people from it.
Bannaz 05-28-2007, 05:29 AM I suggest taking a look at banner advertising. This does work very well for web hosts, especially if you have a good selling point, or for just brand awareness. :)
InnovativeCody 05-31-2007, 02:11 PM Quality over quantity here. I would say the majority of people ignore banner ads anymore, there are so many. I would agree with Adwords. It's relatively inexpensive and you just pay per click, not per impression. Meaning your dollars aren't wasted if no one clicks on your ad, always a good thing. Also, being an active member of a community such as this one, or perhaps a local group can be beneficial as well. Get your name out there any way you can.
It's tough to get a good amount of business by just displaying ads. You've got to diversify.
Be active with this, not passive.
Goviphosting 06-01-2007, 11:11 AM Well everyone has submitted their ideas and i would like to add the LUCK factor into the discussion. Coz u really need to have some Good luck in this business.
Like other members above me have said; use google adsense, it will be able to get you a good amount of traffic. Banner advertising is also very good if you can buy a Banner ad at a web hosting hosting forum you'll get quite a bit of traffic for sure.
supportUP 06-01-2007, 02:51 PM Use the WebHostingTalk.com Ads section as it is free and you will get customers from it.
Also another site is ispcheck.com is a good one.
LaneHost 06-01-2007, 03:43 PM Depends on your business model. Which market are you after and targeting? Of course you can accept business from anywhere but narrow it down.
There are tremendous oppurtunties besides google and top sites. Work with businesses in your local area and generate some buzz. You will be surprised at how many oppurtunites are out there.
Good luck! :agree:

This is great advice. Create a marketing plan for your business based on your services and your target market. Go where those users go. There is a lot of competition out there for hosting companies, but if you stick with it and get creative with your marketing and carve your niche, you can definitely succeed!

Having spent nearly three years in this industry now, I have to disagree with you there.
