View Full Version : Thinking of moving from BlueWho
DovyDigital 05-24-2007, 02:08 AM After over 3 years I am thinking of moving from Bluewho. I love the company, but the plans have not changed and I would like a bit more space. Also their lack of support and referral plan has kind of ticked me off.
What I do:
Host 10-15 small to large sites with 50megs-2gigs of space
What I want:
At least 4 Gigs of Space
Plenty of Bandwidth
CPanel
WHM
SSH!!!
PHP 5 + Zend
Good support
Overselling - IF possible.
A billing system would be nice.
Shared SSL
Custom Nameservers
reliable and fast servers
solid data center
Unlimited standard stuff (mysql, subdomains, domain addons, etc)
Also, if they could transfer domains from BlueWho that would rock. :)
I have seen HostGator, Site5, and recently setup an account with Autica, but will be cancelling that because the base reseller package does not offer cPanel, which is a joke, I will hold judgement until I actually see their control panel.
Can anyone give me some suggestions?
That Site5 $20 dollar deal looks nice, but I worry about various reports with them.
I plan to move somewhere and stay, but I need a little newer servers than Bluewho now offers. Man, I wish Adrian hadn't sold BlueWho. It went to crap after that.

anon-e-mouse 05-24-2007, 03:23 AM Have you tried discussing your new requirements with bluewho? Surely they would provide you with a custom plan after all this time with them?
oracleweb 05-24-2007, 03:45 AM It is true that Bluewho will still solid and reliable does not compare to the Adrian days! I am not sure any hosts will match that.
And Bluewho plans are a more expensive for resources which does make moving tempting.
I am not getting additional accounts with Bluewho for those reasons. On the other hand I have not moved the accounts I have there.
I am waiting until I feel secure that I opened resellers accounts at equally reliable places to consider moving my BLueWho accounts or one of them.
The two I am giving a try are: innohosting.com
and deasoft.com. They both seem great but I am too new to feel secure enough to lose BlueWho whom I KNOW is reliable.
Before Bluewho and Empowering media I was with VShosting --It seemed great for a few months and hen feel apart and cost me money as sites were down for longer than they were up often and it was a pain. i am not willing to risk another such experience for better prices and resources. At the same time, I want to grow the business and the better packages are mighty nice!
I would suggest you see if they would give you SSH at least for what you need and discuss a custom plan. It could not hurt.
So far Innohosting seems to have real potential. I have not started developing sites at Deahost yet so I have less of a sense of how that will go.
Good luck
(Maybe we need a WE WANT ADRIAN BACK club!)

Jedito 05-24-2007, 09:30 AM Hello Dovy, welcome to WHT, as anon-e-mouse said, do you tried to contact them about a custom plan? I'm sure that they will want to make one instead of lose you as a customer. To move to a new provider is a pretty hard step, if you're going to do it, take the time to research about that company, do not guide yourself only for a couple of reviews, take in consideration the years in the business (this does not ensure you anything, however, I can give you some kind of peace of mind), contact them and test their support, etc.
Is not easy, but surely there are a lot of good providers around, good luck in your hunt :)
exchangemymail 05-24-2007, 10:45 AM Just my 0.02 cents, but if they have been reliable for you is it really worth it to move to save a couple of $$?
In the long run i believe if you are happy where you are, and service has been reliable it's not worth it to move to a new host. I would speak with them to see if they can work a custom plan for you.
Lets stress and headache, especially being that you already know what you have as far as reliability. Any time you switch to a new host, you just never know..
just my 0.02 cents//
Nnyan 05-24-2007, 03:25 PM As an ex-Bluewho customer for years leaving them was a difficult decision. But based on some issues I (and others had) and the ongoing promise of new plans (which eventually DID change several months after I left) I moved on.
I still have several friends on Bluewho and they are a very solid company. I am normally one to advise against jumping ship if everything is fine.
But the problem is (this is not a knock on Bluewho they are not the only ones) that while it is true that being a great host is hard work, IMHO the list of "great hosts" has been getting bigger. I can easily rattle off 10 or so hosts that have a great rep here and offer great service. Now no one knows the future so who knows how many would be on that list in 5 or 10 years, but that is true for everything in life.
As a consumer my "vote" is with my wallet. Yes I'm willing to pay extra for quality but if several companies can offer me comparable quality/service at the same or lower price with more resources? Thats not saying that I'll jump ship for save a few bucks, there has to be other reasons mixed into the decision. I've been with a few hosts for only 1-2 years but the avg. is over 3 years.
Sorry about getting long winded, but the gist is that with some research on these (and other) forums you'll quickly come up with a list of excellent hosts. Get on their forums/e-mail and see the response times. I'm sure you'll find more then one host that will suit your needs.
LiamW 05-24-2007, 04:31 PM I've been with hostnine.com for going on 7 months now and they've been the best host I've ever worked with. I'd vouch for them. They offer everything you want on there including a free modern bill license. Overselling is allowed, you just have to contact support and get them to turn it on since it's not on by default.

I second LiamW on HostNine.com (http://www.hostnine.com)
DovyDigital 05-25-2007, 11:44 AM Host9...
Are they reliable? I like their offerings so far...
Anyone have anything bad to say about Host9?
LiamW 05-25-2007, 11:49 AM Try a search on here and you'll find a lot of positive feedback on them. They're beyond reliable. There is always somebody on live chat, always. Uptime has been great as well.
Cool Surfer 05-25-2007, 11:52 AM Make sure you ask about help n support, if you need it.
Also you can check how long has the host been into business.
mrzippy 05-27-2007, 09:35 AM So what did bluewho.com say when you emailed them with your specific requirements and asked for a quote?
