View Full Version : Cogent Dedicated 100 MB or 1000 MB lines
navenetworks 07-14-2002, 09:57 PM Hi,
I am looking for a list of all the hosting company and datacenter that they could accept to get a 100 MB and a 48 u rack for my company, to put there 30 dedicated servers with the 100 MB.
We are using aprox. 15000 GB/month. We need the best price.
Could someone offer me a quote for that? :)
Please include in your quote:
a) Setup fee
b) monthly rate for the 100 MB Cogent line and for the RACK.
c) The price of the servers:
PIII 1800 MHZ
1 GB RAM
60GB IDE
------
Thanks in advance.
navenetworks 07-14-2002, 10:08 PM This is my best quote today:
Pricing Information:
Full rack (42-48u, depending on type):
$750/mo, $750 setup.
100mbps cogent connectivity:
$3750/mo, $4500 setup (min 12 month contract)
:)
Can someone give me a better price?
Thanks!

porcupine 07-14-2002, 10:43 PM Might want to make note that cogent's prices are going up in most places next month, so quotes now might be a lot more in a month or two :bawling:.
navenetworks 07-14-2002, 10:52 PM Yeah I know :)
I hope it will not be too much !!!! :)
hehe
ClusterMania 07-14-2002, 10:53 PM What if you signed a one year contract? How can they raise prices on you? Is it only for new clients that want to signup?
porcupine 07-14-2002, 11:10 PM they dont, if you have a new contract or extend your contract prices wont go up obviously :). If you're renewing your contract though, your prices will be going up =(
apollo 07-15-2002, 02:26 AM oh, any idea how much the new pricing will be from cogent?
PHP50 07-15-2002, 06:32 AM i have heard
$6,500 for 100MB/S
and
$65,000 for 1000MB/S
for like ISP lines, but for personal lines it will be
$3000 for 100MB/S
and
$30,000 for 1000MB/S
apollo 07-15-2002, 10:05 AM I see... still pricing is very good comparing to others.... (of course with + and - )
RackMy.com 07-15-2002, 10:34 AM Wow, interesting. That will make them more expensive then Verio and a few others.
BiGWill 07-15-2002, 10:41 AM so they are aiming to get profitable sometime.
heh.
maybe cisco stopped pumping money in? :D
cbtrussell 07-15-2002, 11:36 AM $6,500 for 100MB/S Wow, interesting. That will make them more expensive then Verio and a few others. Mike, are you saying you've got Verio under $6.50 per meg?

That would actually be $65 per meg.
RackMy.com 07-15-2002, 12:25 PM Yes, Verio is less than $6,500 for 100MB/S
mdrussell 07-15-2002, 12:37 PM Yipes is less than $65 per meg too.
Are you guyz just kidding or something?? Where would I get Yipe or Verio for less than $65/mbps.
skylab 07-15-2002, 12:48 PM i would imagine in their major markets. denver? philly? houston

Even at 100mbit, thats pretty cheap.
skylab 07-15-2002, 12:59 PM oh yeah, duh, i'm sure you either have to be an amazing haggler or you have to buy in bulk to get prices like that.
RackMy.com 07-15-2002, 01:16 PM you have to buy in bulk Of course :)
apollo 07-15-2002, 01:44 PM cool... $65 or less per Meg - that is pretty good pricing from Yipes and Verio...
UmBillyCord 07-15-2002, 01:59 PM I highly recommend sdcolo.com I think it is $4000/mo for a full rack with a 100 Meg connection to Cogent. No set up fees. The only downfall is that they do not have a back up provider ofr Cogent users.
Their colo is not the greatest, but if you want to get inon the cheap, they are good to go. Plus the 24/7 support is tops and if you spend over $5,000/mo they throw in free remote hands which includes terminal service to all servers. Meaning they will get you connected to your box so you can work on it remotelly!
cbtrussell 07-15-2002, 05:18 PM That would actually be $65 per meg. {sheepishly throws old calculator into trash and vows to buy a better one} :cartman:
porcupine 07-15-2002, 05:20 PM lol :D
mahinder 07-16-2002, 12:51 AM but if verio and and yipes will be cheaper then cogent then who will buy cogent and who much bandwidth will be offered by these providers who offer 300gb to 500 gb for around $130~
will it become half of this or they will continue to oversell
Jay Suds 07-16-2002, 01:27 AM I honestly can't believe that Yipes is selling bandwidth for $65/Mb. The lowest I've heard Yipes go for is $165/Mb, and from what I understand, they are now trying to keep all accounts over $200/Mb, even when you're buying 100Mb/sec +
porcupine 07-16-2002, 01:39 AM Most of the people who talk prices on WHT don't really have the information first hand, they have friends who gave the information to them second hand, etc.
I can believe yipes would do $65/mbit.... on a gig-e circuit where they already had connectivity, on anything under 500mbps though? i highly doubt it.

Sure, show me where you got a quote direct from either Yipes or Verio for that rate and in what market.

No, not even on a Gig-E circuit...at least not in Houston.
RackMy.com 07-16-2002, 01:53 AM Call up Verio and ask for a 100 Mbps Ethernet drop in KC, it will be less than $65.00/Mbps. I am not sure about Yipes as we have never called on them.
At 6500 per 100mbp, Cogent will still be the cheapest around, at least here they will.
porcupine 07-16-2002, 02:10 AM might even shut some of these smack talking mouths around here :D, the amount of cogent bashers who've never used cogent annoys me .
mdrussell 07-16-2002, 02:11 AM Yipes Gig-E connectivity, in NJ - $35,000 / month.

Wow.
Ya, I second that ...wow. I might still stick with what I said, I have to see that in writing to beleive it.
porcupine 07-16-2002, 03:23 AM Wonder what it costs for 100mbps though ^_^
mdrussell 07-16-2002, 03:25 AM I wasn't told this information first hand from Yipes, however its from a reliable source and I have every reason to believe it...
ClusterMania 07-16-2002, 05:30 AM Whos your Yipes rep? Do different reps give better price quotes than others?
RackMy.com 07-16-2002, 05:37 AM Do different reps give better price quotes than others?Yep, it happens all the time. We normally call 3-4 different reps and pit them against each other. Really, it's easy to get a lot of providers below $65.00/Mbps on a full GiG-E line
Serverhost 07-16-2002, 03:47 PM Please e-mail me the name/number of your Yipes rep.
ClusterMania 07-17-2002, 09:48 AM Same here, whos the best Yipes rep? PM me
