View Full Version : Domain Transfer from GoDaddy
g_zebra 05-19-2007, 10:37 AM Hi,
I wanted to transfer my domain registered with Go Daddy which I purchased a year ago and I opened my account with Go Daddy today only to make the transfer.
I have learned how to do things on the menu at the Go Daddy's domain control center, but I can't get my domain listed in All My Domains folder.
Does anyone know the way to do this? I sent emails to Go Daddy for support, but all I receive are automated answers which are not any helpful.
Thank you.
Vinayak_Sharma 05-19-2007, 11:31 AM So you want to transfer the domain from one Godaddy account to another Godaddy account?
g_zebra 05-19-2007, 12:34 PM No, not another GoDaddyaccount, but non-GoDaddy account.
I know it's no problem if I had opened an account with GoDaddy at the purchase of my domain through GoDaddy.
I asked my hosting company to get me a domain and they got it through GoDaddy, which was about a year ago. And now I signed up with another hosting company because their serves and price are much better.
I didn't have an account with GoDaddy until today. I opened my account only to make the transfer.
Thank you.
Vinayak_Sharma 05-19-2007, 12:52 PM I think there is an account change facility at godaddy so you can ask your previous provider to push that domain under your account with godaddy.
Or you can initiate transfer from within your own Godaddy account for the domain. But before starting transfer process, make sure that domain is not locked. If you are the Registrant/Admin of that domain you will receive an email from godaddy to approve the transfer, but if you are not then I think whoever is will have to approve the transfer.
g_zebra 05-19-2007, 01:32 PM Thank you for your reply, Dear vinsar.
It's locked. And still more, I can't even get the domain listed at the domain management panel. It just shows No Domains In List. What I want to know is how to get my domain listed at the panel.
Any idea?
Thank you
Vinayak_Sharma 05-19-2007, 01:41 PM Domain won't be listed under you until its been transferred.
BTW can you tell us the domain name that you are trying to transfer?
g_zebra 05-19-2007, 02:13 PM If it won't be listed until it's been transfered, how can I initiate the transfer?
If it's listed, I can do necessary actions initiating the transfer.
That's what I understand I can do at the domain cotrol panel.
I don't know if it's okay to tell my domain name at this site which is open to the public.
You will need to ask your hosting provider to do a "Change of Account" to you at GoDaddy. To do that they will need the Registrant (you) Name, Address, Phone, Email. When they do this, you will receive an email from GoDaddy (almost immediately) with some codes. You log into your account and select "Pending Account Changes" and enter the codes. This proceedure requires a checkout (zero value) and the domain will immediately appear in your account.

Well to transfer a domain you put in a new request from your account, try yourself it will ask for the domain name that you want to be transferred in.
But yes for successful transfer the domain should not be locked.
You can pm me the domain name if you do not want to make it public.
g_zebra 05-20-2007, 04:39 AM Thank you, Dear stu2.
Is it the hosting provider's responsibility to do that for me? In general cases, who should do the initial action?
As for me, they got my site suspended for what they claim as overloading the servers a week ago. I have a lot of files stored and linked to lots of my sites.
And they say there's no way to unsuspend it. Sill more, they charged me yesterday in monthly billing.
Yes, if my hosting provider can do that for me. it's the best solution for me.
But they changed to be very unfriendly to me. If it's their resposibility, I will try.
Please reply, Dear stu2.
Vinayak_Sharma 05-20-2007, 04:55 AM It is not hosting providers responsibility, its your domain hence you have to initiate the transfer, but yes since both the accounts are with godaddy hence he can push the domain to your account, but as you said he is turning to be unfriendly it seems that he won't be doing that easily.
Have you talked to your host to do that?
What was his reply?
Once again I am asking to you, who owns the domain, you or your hosting provider, I mean who is the domain's registrant and admin?
It would help if you can tell us the domain name, if you don't want it public just PM me the domain name.
It's the hosting provider who has to initiate the transfer at GoDaddy. When you get GoDaddy's email, then you take over the transfer process.
I very much doubt if your host will enable the transfer if there are unpaid bills. Why should they?
g_zebra 05-20-2007, 07:04 PM Thank you for your reply, Dear stu2.
First of all, there's no unpaid bills. I got a billing notification that said my recurring order had been successfully billed.
And I found out that the registrant is not me, but someone related to my hosting company. Until that time, I thought I was the registrant or owner in my judgement, because I paid a year ago for my newly registared domain. My host got it registered with GoDaddy.
I can receive no replies from my host any more. They are hopeless now. So I'm considering buying my domain through a GoDaddy Buy Domain Agent. I never imagined buying my domain again which I bought a year ago.
Is it really possible? Or should I give up the domain? Now I feel it's no problem for me to start with a new different domain.
I was too inexperienced in these matters.
What do you think?
Your suggestion will be highly appreciated.

Well you have two options now, one is to buy a new domain directly through godaddy (which I will suggest, don't buy through an agent), Secondly you can backorder your previous domain through godaddy itself, they will monitor your domain and when it becomes free they will try to book it in your name.
BTW what's the expiry date of your previous domain?
g_zebra 05-20-2007, 08:14 PM Thank you for your suggestion , Dear Vinsar.
Yes, here's another problem. The domain is just about to expire, on the23rd of May. Is it good or bad? Does it mean it will become free soon and I'd better backorder it?
Your suggestion, please.
Vinayak_Sharma 05-20-2007, 08:31 PM It all depends on how good the domain name is, even if it is expiring on 23rd of May, it will be free to book again after around 60 days, as there will a grace period of 30 days (do check at godaddy site) where the current registrant can renew it normally, then there will be deletion/restore period, then deletion period.
So if it had been a good domain, chances are that it will be booked by some domain squatters out there (and believe me there are many of them), who will then put it for sale (they know that they can sell it at good price).
So if you want your domain back then you can backorder it from within your godaddy account (Ithink its around $19 or so). So if you want to backorder it then do it before it becomes free.
Or else keep looking for its availability atleast 10 times a day at equal interval (day+night)after say 40 days of its expiry (people will laugh at me for this suggestion, but believe me that I had saved many of my clients from loosing their domain, when they had not wanted to backorder).
g_zebra 05-20-2007, 08:42 PM Thank you, Dear Vinsar, for your very useful advice.
I'm wondering which is better for me, giving up the domain or starting with a new domain. I like the domain, of course. But if it takes too many days to get it back, I'd rather get a new domain.
What's bad about asking an agent? I think it's surer and quicker although it costs much more.
Thank you again.
Vinayak_Sharma 05-20-2007, 08:50 PM Well if you mean asking an agent to negotiate with your previous host for your domain, then yes you can try that.
g_zebra 05-21-2007, 05:46 AM Thank you, Dear vinsar.
I will backorder the domain I want. it'll be less than $20 a year.
If I ask an agent, maybe their asking price might be extraordinary, I fear.
My hosting provider never replies to my emails. They susupended my account a week ago and got my sites unavailable for ever. And still they have charged me for next month. How can I cancel my account and stop their charging me? What are the proper legal procedures for this or regulatory organization I can turn to for rescue?
I'd appreciate your kind advice.
Vinayak_Sharma 05-21-2007, 05:56 AM Had you followed the proper cancellation procedure of the host, they must have stated it in there terms & conditions.
If you paid through Credit Card, you can initiate charge back, talk to the credit card issuing company/bank to stop further payment to the said host.
g_zebra 05-21-2007, 06:21 AM Thank you for your reply, Dear vinsar.
As a matter of fact, I can't follow the proper cancellation procedure. If I can log in to the control panel, I can as I can do at my another hosting provider's CP.
They just try to be out of touch with me and continue charging me.
It's a Swiss-based small company, Alexa ranking about 400,000th.
At host reviewing sites, no good messages can be found about them.
I so much regret having been too careless when I signed up a year ago.
Any good suggestion?

I concur with vinsar's opinion.
