I am trying to set up a small redhat box for practice at my house. Now a little about the box im installing it on:
P1 122mhz
48mb ram
No floppy
No CD-Rom
Win98
NIC

I know how to do everything but this one part. Since it has no cd-rom drive, I cant just put in the cd and go. I have to install it from my other computer running XP. Is there anyway I could install redhat to box a (win98) from box b (xp)? i have set up all the neccesairy sharing. Is there a utility I could use? Or do I just boot box b (xp) and the other one and start installing and just have the path be something like G: (box a shared drive)?

Any help would be nice!

Thanks ahead of time,
dbzgod

ok well if the computers are networked you can do this:

setup a ftp server on the one computer running XP and copy the files from a redhat cd onto the computer so they are in the FTP path.

Then make a bootnet disk for the other machine using rawrite and boot the new machine off of that. Then just tell the installer to install from a ftp server located on the XP machine.

Should work.

Open up the XP box
Remove cdrom drive and cables if you don't have any spare
Open up test box
Install cdrom drive
Install linux

You probably think I'm nuts, but it is an option ;)

LOL -- And it's the option that will work with the least fuss and bother.

Thanks for the help and I ended up doing what Tazz said. Except I used a double speed thing from an old 486 box and it took forever but at least it worked.

I suggest you buy a floppy drive. Hell, I have about 20 old computers in my garage and I'll GIVE you one if you pay for shipping. Then make a boot disk, stick it in, and install through FTP.

Or don't pay anything and do what Tazzman says :stickout
