Are there any reseller hosts as good as Cartika?
We host a lot of client websites at Cartika.
My boss raised a question "What if Cartika goes down, who can we turn to fast?"
I don't believe Cartika will go down, but I would like to answer my boss.
Who is as good as Cartika?

Cartika (http://www.cartika.ca) is a well established corporation (Cartika IT Solutions, Inc.) I really don't think they're going anywhere.

so you will need to have your own backup frequently. In case (just in case, but I doubt it) Cartika having trouble, you can switch to other like Fluidhosting, Steadfast providing H-Sphere too, and restore your backup

However, I dont think Cartikahosting will disappear suddently. FYI, Andrew told me that they are expanding their space in Colo4Dallas, so no reason for them to quit now :)

I know, you can't go wrong with Cartika. We trust our clients with them (and our company website).

Hello tmax100 and thank you for your kind words.

I certainly do understand why your boss is concerned. It is wise to always plan for the worst and to have contingency plans. I would not hold this against your company and again, it is wise to have contingency plans.

Having said this, I "think" what you are worried about is the absolute worst case scenario - ie) a company just disappears - then what do you do? (and although I should probably be offended :) I understand the history of this industry and I understand why people would be hesitent to simply trust a provider - as such, I do not take such things personally and rather accept that the industry on the whole has jaded alot of consumers)

Paying for a second account may just be a waste of money - more importantly, would be to ensure you have regular backups of your own data - you can always pick up another account whenever you like, but, without your backups, having a second account will not help you.

You do have the ability to access your backups right from your control panel. Addtionally, in our downloads section, we have some automated tools you can use to regularly backup your files to your local PC or server. You can use the mysql backup utility and via a cron schedule a backup of your databases to your FTP space. You can then use our FTP backup utility to schedule and automate the backups of all of your data to your local environment.

Hopefully this is helpful - however, if you would still like to procure another hsphere reseller account - then I would look at providers like hsphere.us, steadfast, liquidweb and eirca.net

Good to have a backup account. You will never know what will happen. Always backup your data no matter what.

As long as you keep daily backups, you have nothing to worry about - it will take about 1 day to migrate all accounts to a different host.

But again, I would not be worried about Cartika, they are serious about their business and have invested a lot of money for their infrastructure.

Just keep backups, so in a case of a disaster you will be able to swap hosts immediately (no need for second reseller account - most H-Sphere providers provision accounts instantly).

I agree with everyone here about Cartika I think the risks are very very small. Now if you really are VERY worried about downtime and having more then one account is not a big deal then setting up a redundant account (with regular updates using something like this: http://www.howtoforge.com/mirroring_with_rsync) and using something like simplefailover.com or dnsmadeeasy.com.

Of course for most people this is a bunch of extra work especially if you're using someone like CH.

I don't think I've ever heard of a reseller with a "boss" before. I assumed reseller were one-person shows and if they became more serious, then they ended up with their own server.

Learn something new every day, I guess.

That implies that being a reseller isn't serious. You'd be surprised how many resellers prefer the H-Sphere system over their own group of dedicated machines. Business wise, it just makes sense.

He he... We don't make money with hosting. :)
We do web design, SEO, marketing, consulting, etc...
Hosting is something we provide because it streamlines our work-flow.

Nobody here is trying to save a few bucks on hosting.
We have a bag of money ready to give to good hosts.
I'm trying to find a good host to match Cartika, but I don't seem to find one (even the ones Cartika mentioned don't seem right for us). This worries my boss.

No VPS or dedicated server please... Why bother when someone can keep them running for us?

Hi hostingpuppy - I can assure you that alot of our resellers are medium to large sized companies. Often times, as tmax100 has indicated, hosting resellers are not really hosting providers - rather, they add value on top of hosting and simply need stable, reliable environments for their clients. I can think of 1 design firm in particular hosting with us as resellers that generate over $5M/year in design revenue - many other similar stories as well.

Sure, it makes perfect sense, I just never thought of it that way before. I think of a 'typical reseller' (if there is such a thing) as a solo web designer or other craftsperson that is looking to value add.

Interesting.
