I'm just looking for registrars who offer co.in, for cheap and preferably offer (free? :D) whois protection, i can't seem to find any.

not sure about .co.in but namecheap is selling .in have a look at their website.

You can lookup a list of .co.in registrars at registry . in (the official registry of .in and .co.in)

i found answerable.com that offer them, for a nice price, via the other thread here :)
