<< RaQ 3 can easily handle about 35 million web objects or "hits" in a single day >>

Is the above statement (taken from the Cobalt RaQ3 FAQ at http://www.cobalt.com/products/raq/faq.raq3.html ) true?

My site, AnimeWallpapers.com (200 GB bandwidth usage per month; estimated 100000+ hits per day, all static HTML or JPG files) just got kicked off of its virtual host for using too much CPU power.

The host that kicked me off claims that my site probably needs *several* dedicated servers hosting it in a load-balanced configuration.

But it sounds like a single Cobalt RaQ3 should be able to accomodate my site easily. So which is true?

Hi :)

that is just typical marketing stuff/sales talk BS

if its static html then prolly Yes, it can handle that much traffic but if there are 2 or even 1 site with complex databases with lots of site visitors/users ,it will bog down your server, you always get that "cpu is heavily loaded message" from admin@yourcobaltraq.....

if you plan/anticipate lots of hits/site visitors get a box with a good processor like pentium's ,the raq3's have amd 300mhz :(

the gurus on this forum can explain further.

Too much CPU might be 15-20% just realize. I'd think a healthy RaQ (meaning one with adequate RAM) would do fine, but as it was pointed out, it isn't the most powerful beast in the world. So I say, I *think* it should do fine.

Shoot an email to whoever you are thinking of getting it from and ask their opinion. 200 GB is a good amount to throw through it and maybe a more durable server would handle it better.

I've seen a raq3 serve 10GB in a single day... but it wasn't pretty. Kudos to rackspace for power cycling promptly after it crashed three times that day.

I'd say that one server should be enough... but don't get a raq. I'd probably get a FreeBSD / PIII 650 / 256MB / any modern 7200 RPM IDE drive system. You can probably get such a system cheaper than you could get a raq anyway... much of the cost of a raq3 comes from the UI which is really only useful for people running many different sites.

Feel free to send me an email if you have any other questions (am I allowed to say that? I'm not affiliated with any company so I don't think that counts as advertising ;) ).
