I have a RAQ 3 server with 4webspace.com and when I try to connect to any of my sites home pages, e-mail or ftp it won't connect, it just timesout. This means I also can't connect to the admin page of the server to try and work out what wrong. Any ideas?

i just had one of my ips die for about 15 min or something. other than that, did you add the ips for the domains in the dns control panel? are you using ips you are assigned?

Hello,

if you are also to telnet into the server do the following commands:

su
Type in your admin pass

cd /etc/rc.d/init.d <enter>
./admserv start
./httpd restart
./sendmail start

If you are able to get the admserv started again, go into there and goto maintance, then "reboot" and restart the server. If you are not able to telnet into the server.

goto your Dos windows, and type: ping 255.255.255.255 (or whatever your ip is) If you get a reply, it means that something very serious has happened with the server.

If you get no reply it means 1) The network connection is down
2) The network settings on the cobalt have changed themselves (Which has happened)

Thanks for the quick replies guys!

Yep everything was working fine up until about an hour ago. It's my first server so I don't have a clue what could be wrong. The IP address of is 216.234.186.44 and if you try to connect it will say website found waiting for reply but it wpn't reply as such.

I can get to my box so I don't *think* it is the network, not that it couldn't be somewhere along the line of your connection to the box. Not sure how old this post is, but I could reach your IP just fine.

I contacted 4webspace and they got back to me quickly as usual and said the server had got locked. Now I put a heavy bandwith site up on the server today and figured that was probably what was causing it.

The thing is I took the site down and deleted all the files but I just got anoth "CPU is heavily loaded" message sent to me. This shouldn't technically be happening anymore so I was wondering is it possible someone is hacking into or messing with the server? Is there anyway to check this as I don't have a clue how I would do this?

Sounds to me like your box did indeed get hacked, try running the following command from the telnet prompt "ps aux" and see what processes are eating up your cpu, if you have trouble I can help.... :) Good luck

Also note that the indicators are a bit slow sometimes to react to changes. I don't know if this is the case or not, but I remember upping diskspace for a site that had reached the maximum and the red indicator light stayed on for a bit even though it was fine. Not sure if I got a notice or not... point is, check what Charles wrote and see.
