Hi,

I just have a quick question.

I'm currently thinking of buying a dedicated server and was wondering which of these choices are the best. The price is the same.

P3 800 mhz + SCSI drive

P3 1000 mhz + IDE drive

There's enough gb on the SCSI for my needs.

The server will be for a forum and other kinds of heavy MySQL db load.

The SCSI is generally faster and will also spare the server some CPU load. But is it better getting more mhz?

Thanks for helping :)

thanks for your inputs :)

It also looked like a typo to me edude :D

I also expected SCSI to be the better choice... Just wanted to have it confirmed before buying :)

I would go with the first option, its usually good to have SCSI when running cgi scripts etc...

I disagree. I think in the long run, the scsi is the better option. The servers that I run are more often I/O bound rather than CPU bound. I run lots of forums/php type of sites and I think you will get more users on the SCSI platform.

No offense edude, but I was disagreeing with you. I probably should have worded it differently and just stated my opinion. Sorry bout that.

The P3 800 mhz + SCSI drive will make a faster and better server than the P3 1000 mhz + IDE drive. As the others have said, 99% of the time you will be IO limited rather than by the CPU.
