What do you think of Web 2.0? Is it all just hype?

What do you think of Web 2.0?Better than Web 1.0, but not as good as Web 3.0. Since 2 comes after 1 but before 3, this clearly must be the case.

Is it all just hype?Hopefully my answer to this question can be easily derived from the tone of my first answer ;)

we're currently using Web 2.3 Alpha Build 1368.

It is a little unstable, but oh my the things you can do with XYZTML.

There was another recent web 2.0 thread (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=593861) in which people make their opinions. Some like, some don't, but I think more important than 'old web vs Web 2.0' is the execution of your particular project. Focus on doing it well and if you can avoid terms like 'startup' and 'social networking' then all the better ;)

"Web2.0" in itself is very good. It's a name given to modern websites that have constantly updated contents and give loads of interactivity to users. It also has to do with the way websites are styled and constructed.

For a good example check out http://web2.0awards.org (yes, weird urls is also part of the so called 'web2.0' :))

super link.

BTW 3.0 comes after 2.0 but grade B comes after grade A.

I am fed up with the usage of this web 2.0 and all the meanings that people put to it. Well, since everybody is doing that, I will contribute to the cause by sharing my definition with you.

The web was comprised mostly of static web pages in the first place, filled with hypertext and links.

The Internet is not a new thing. It is continuously evolving. The Internet is noted as being the fastest-growing medium in history, reaching over 500 million users in only five years, as opposed to the 13 it took for the TV or even 20 for the radio.

The web is in its teens now, it’s no longer a baby. It’s more of an in-dependent, peer-seeking, moody, sometimes angst-filled, authority-challenging and demanding teenager that just graduated from grade school to high school.

Web 2.0 is just another fancy way of saying the web is growing up

Ok. My more serious share now :)
No, it's not hype. It is a major step in the web's development and as such, it is normal to attract people's attention.

The web as always taken steps in it's maturity, web 2.0 is just a big leap.
I think the hype is that people are making such a big deal about it. Yes it's exciting, but web 2.0 has been here for a while.

IMO, Anyone who doesn't like web 2.0+ doesn't understand it. Which is common because many people make assumptions when they first hear of it. Just my $.02

I think Web 2.0 is brilliant, the sites are much better, sites like ThinkFree can completely replace Microsoft Office, all in a web browser!

you nailed it dude!

Though I got to admit Mummy just hit it on the head, saying web is now in its teens, I have a question here - is it really hype to enjoy and talk about something developing and performing now better than before? :)

What do you think of Web 2.0? Is it all just hype?

I think it is hype when taken to a certain point... but each his or her own... I do think it is good to attempt to "package" these technologies in ways people can understand... without packages we have a mess....

This is a good site to explain what web 2.0 is all about.
