(SH)Saeed 07-12-2002, 09:35 PM Just wondering how many servers the average web host has for shared (where you put at lest 50 accounts on) accounts.. Alan - Vox 07-12-2002, 09:53 PM 7 now, 8 soon Deb 07-12-2002, 10:40 PM Getting ready to put number #18 into production... 2Grumpy 07-12-2002, 10:46 PM Increase the numbers #12 went online yesterday Asher S 07-12-2002, 11:41 PM Too many :) HostDealer 07-12-2002, 11:45 PM damn, are ya guys rich? 18 servers? 12 servers? 8 servers? I cant even decide to get 1 server. LOL. How do ya find that many clients? Its like they come into your hand like you give them free hosting or something. Do u mind to share any tips? NetXL 07-13-2002, 12:13 AM They've been around for a while. Heck, Deb up there has her own facility :) Deb 07-13-2002, 12:20 AM They've been around for a while. Heck, Deb up there has her own facility Ahhh, but I was most excited about getting our own sign to put on the wall :D (seriously!) We have been around for a while and it was our goal to maintain a nice and steady slow growth pattern and so far we have achieved that. There are other hosts that started when we did and they are reporting millions/billions in revenues etc etc with the venture capital that backed them. We opted to avoid the debt/risk and just take it easy. We started with one server like most and concentrated on what little clients we could get. From there they did the rest ;) Word of mouth has been good to us. I believe if we continue to be good to our clients, they will continue to help us maintain that growth. (SH)Saeed 07-13-2002, 12:29 AM Deb, You run a great company. You were actually the first and best web host I ever bought hosting services from. :agree: Walter 07-13-2002, 05:53 AM Originally posted by Deb I was most excited about getting our own sign to put on the wall :D (seriously!) You were actually the first and best web host I ever bought hosting services from. Honest congratulations! Wow! Thank You :) It has been exciting! Actually that would be better stated as... THANK YOU LOL. I'm now trying to figure out when we can get a big vinyl sticker for the generator lol well, many companies failed even backed by venture capitalist money.... True...very true..and really sad too :( It takes more than money to make it happen. That's where the dedication and concentration on pleasing the client comes in...not to mention a tad of good business sense. With any business there is a high risk of failure especially in an industry that is just barely 10 years old... Aussie Bob 07-13-2002, 03:53 PM 3 for now. 1 for the HTTPme.com site and the other 2 for client's accounts. Next server comes online in 20 days. I like what Deb said - We have been around for a while and it was our goal to maintain a nice and steady slow growth pattern and so far we have achieved that. Yep, can't beat steady and slow growth. It's a long term vision. We're also 100% debt free with plenty of cash in the bank. :) 2Grumpy 07-13-2002, 04:23 PM If I had any business debt or owed anyone anything other than my normal monthly fees for hosting/paychecks/phones, I'd probably never get any sleep. I don't know if I'd even let someone invest in the company because then I'm responsible to someone's vision other than my own. tazd9t9 07-13-2002, 04:51 PM We are resellers and proud of it :D Working on the same sort of principle as Deb, we are gradually building up our client base, we are starting to get more signups from word of mouth and we are also getting a lot of positive comments from customers. We were especially pleased with the way our clients reacted when we had problems with one of our providers and their sites were down for a couple of days. Not one of them left and most praised us for the way we handled things. Hopefully it will stay that way and one day we will be able to say we have 18 servers. :) Web Solution 07-13-2002, 06:58 PM 3 Colocated 1 Dedicated 4 Total :) - Russ AH-Tina 07-13-2002, 07:51 PM 15...soon to be 16. :) --Tina HRBrendan 07-14-2002, 01:44 AM Lots : ) -Brendan NetXL 07-14-2002, 02:17 AM Originally posted by HRBrendan Lots : ) -Brendan 35? Jeremy W. 07-17-2002, 07:41 PM We've only been around for 5 weeks, so... 2 shared servers with a third on the way by the end of August and probably a 4th in September (first Windows one). bteeter 07-17-2002, 08:54 PM Originally posted by Aussie Bob 3 for now. 1 for the HTTPme.com site and the other 2 for client's accounts. We're also 100% debt free with plenty of cash in the bank. :) I'll second that. Well put Deb! We are doing the exact same thing. Being somewhat of a .com refugee - I've seen first hand just how ugly and painful it can be when a business implodes. (I joined a company in March of 2000 - and left 7 months later. By March of 2001 they were no more. About 75 people lost their jobs. Sad, very sad.) I'd rather take it nice and slow, keep cash in the bank, and be ready to take advantage of opportunities in the future. Sure, its not as glamourous as say getting a $15 million dollar check from a VC and going on a spending and hiring spree - but... When you do it the slow and steady way, you have no one but yourself and your customers to thank for your success.
