How many domains will this device handle?
![]() | View Full Version : Number of sites on a RaQ 550 yahooligan 05-06-2007, 10:33 PM How many domains will this device handle? gnetwerker 05-07-2007, 03:27 PM Any RaQ will handle dozens of low-traffic sites. I've heard of people hosting hundreds of stub sites. There is no inherent limit (other than disk space) to the number of vsites it can host. On the other hand, even a 550 will struggle with a single site with high traffic, lots of PHP, CGI, mySQL, or equivalent load. The Raq 550 has a 1GHz Pentium III, so it can be expected to handle about the same load as a similarly-configured system running LAMPS. zeffie 05-13-2007, 02:25 AM Any RaQ will handle dozens of low-traffic sites. I have seen over 1500 sites on a raq550. now I'm not sure what lamps has to do with this but yes... it's going to be a 800 mghz or 1ghz processor... and depending on your needs you can have 10's of thousands of sites! I've seen this too... gnetwerker 05-14-2007, 01:53 AM LAMPS = Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP, Sendmail zeffie 06-01-2007, 02:50 PM hummm is there a homepage for it? Granted we already run all that... gnetwerker 06-02-2007, 01:04 AM http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LAMP_(software_bundle) Though if you have to ask .... Xapmat 06-02-2007, 01:30 AM yahooligan, according to the stats some people listed in this thread, if you went out and built a generic pc as a server with say a 3gz proc, you should be able to handle 1.4 billion sites. Xapmat 06-02-2007, 01:58 AM gnetwerker, you left the ) off in your link. :) I have seen a few distributions ask if you want to do a detailed install (pick all the packages) or do a LAMPS install. It does make life easy if you're not sure what you need. gnetwerker 06-02-2007, 03:12 AM Sorry, the auto-linking software bit me, and now it's too late to edit. Here it is again, for ease of use: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LAMP_(software_bundle) Re the other noise -- sometimes you just need to beat someone with a clue-stick! zeffie 06-02-2007, 03:23 AM So is there a LAMP based system you or anyone would like to see on the RaQ's? gnetwerker 06-02-2007, 07:36 PM We already have one -- it's CentOS + BlueQuartz. zeffie 06-02-2007, 10:37 PM Well if you look at it that way I guess we already do have a LAMP based system. Just what the Cobalt builders created for us to begin with... I'll start a new thread if I want to continue this since this is now way off subject for the thread. dotRoot 06-02-2007, 11:12 PM lol... this is funny.... I've seen this too... Not on a LAMP setup you haven't. LAMP isn't just a software bundle anymore, its become typical jargon. I've never used it, but I would tell someone I run a LAMP setup. Last time I was on a Raq (2002) there was no way it'd run 1500 dynamic sites. MySQL alone would limit your sites greatly. Couple with dynamic content and PHP-based CMS' I doubt you could have more than one site with any real traffic. And even then, that's pushing it. That's just based on my experience though and since the system hasn't changed, I'd call it valid experience. zeffie 06-03-2007, 01:54 AM Last time I was on a Raq (2002) there was no way it'd run 1500 dynamic sites. You can use your expereince any way you want but if you search the archives you'll find someone putting unlimited sites on a RaQ2. it's all in the programming, content, and requirements. I think it's safe to say 1500 popular joomla sites won't work... but 1500 sites is the most I have ever seen. I should also add the only reason I saw the system was becasue the gui blew up and he couldn't make a change. he ended up migrating away for cobalts. NOTE: You should keep in mind that the gui can blow up no matter how many sites you have on it. I don't make it.. I just Report it! kencox 06-18-2007, 10:00 PM The most sites I have ever been able to put on a RAQ Server is around 11,000. The only reason I could not add more is the file system was getting to slow when doing a list. It will 100% Depend on the popularity of the sites you are putting on the server. If they are basic one page sites with low traffic I do not think there is a limit. if you Put up one bad pl or cgi script and you are done. zeffie 06-27-2007, 09:18 PM if you Put up one bad pl or cgi script and you are done. I think this is worth repeating... if you Put up one bad pl or cgi script and you are done. There was an old perl forum that used to just kill'em all... |
