Hostgator and ResellerZoom has all support staff in US - as I am aware of, but not trust me 100% :)

No problem with the support, anything is great so far.

The other hosts maybe submit tickets to them and ask were about they are based. Hostgator, try their live chat, i gather their in India from the words used and understanding or not so understand of the questions.

It'd be worth submitting a ticket to each host to ask a question like this.

That is a good idea.

Perhaps someone here at WHT has worked with these Resellers and would know first hand and be able to coment on the support response they received and from where?

Our staff is located in Jupiter, FL with the exception of a few remote employees located throughout the United States (mainly for hurricane precautions).

I don't know about Hostgator but i am sure about Reseller Zoom .. they have staff in india too .. why i am sure .. once there was a problem in my email account on a particular domain .. and i ask the support to login to my account through webmail .. and they did .. as you all know that in horde webmail last login IP will be show to the current user .. and the last login IP was from India.

Good feedback :)

Now that we know where many have their support how about quality of support?

How would you rate your experience with a particular Reseller?

Do you think the location of their support has a factor?

Hi

I have no personal experience with any of the hosts above. But I believe that where the support is located is not important and does not contribute to superior or excellent service. I work for a US based IT outsourcing company in Malaysia supporting companies like GM among others. Large companies are locating their support service outside its home location for quite number of reasons.

Just a thought......:-)

So long as the support is helpful, prompt, courteous, knowledgeable and understandable, then the location has no influence.

First of all does it makes that difference as where support is coming? I think more important is if we are getting proper support or not. Many companies don't even tell as from where they are supporting and i think it hardly matters.

Yeah it does make a difference, to me. I want to know my money is going to support companies using workers in the USA and Canada, because the clients I will have are companies who are based in USA and Canada -- companies and money being generated which is local to my economy - North America. I run my company here, so I don't want to deal with support staff who displaced local workers due to their cheap labor wages. The bottom line is, the clients are here so the support should be here.

You Indians in India can support the customers and clients which are situated in your own country. Same way that I wouldn't support some company here stealing your jobs and providing support to Bombay Fishing Company from New York (although that would never happen of course since you guys are happy working for $4/Hr and that's why so many of our incompetent north american executives move jobs offshore).

So yeah, I don't want to deal with a hosting reseller unless they are either 100% USA based (or Canadian of course). Sorry...

Well that may be what you are thinking. From your thinking it seems you are just fighting for US jobs issue rather then providing best support to your customers. I don't say US guys cant give best support, its skill that you should look for rather then my and your country men.

Anyways it might be your company policy best of luck and no one can make you to change your policy.

Hello,

To update this thread I went with Dathorn on June 12th and may consider KnownHost in July for another project.

Reason, I wanted to have a USA based company with USA support to service clients that wish to "support" USA business.

Business/Marketing choice ;)

I agree with you on a few points and appreciate seeing others who support keeping jobs within their own countries.

I agree with some of the previous posters that nationality should not matter as far as knowledge and competence. I highly doubt that my US based support techs are anymore educated or competent than techs in India. Placed side by side I am sure the average tech from each country, with similar qualifications, education & backgrounds of course, would perform the same.

Now, that being said, US based techs and employees are more expensive than outsourced employees. There are some customers who are willing to pay a little bit extra for US based technical support, while some don't care at all and won't pay extra.
