View Full Version : Does anybody notice the similarity?

I was browsing two webhosts pages, and while I like both of them, I see some glaring similarities.

The pages are
http://vpsbyte.com and http://layeredtech.com

Most prominently is the "1, 2, 3, 4" information selector.

However, the rest of the site appears to be fairly similar too, with almost exact wording at the top right of both pages.

Am I crazy or does anybody else notice this?

I see what you're saying, but it might not be a direct rip.

You can hack swf files easily, but it could be as easy as someone liking the look and doing it themselves.

I'm betting over half the sites on the web are created from inspiration looking at other sites.

I'm not sure what else you see, but the "1, 2, 3, 4" was definitely not a rip. Many other web hosting designs have such setup.

Other than that, I can't seem to find anything else which would have similarities?

Edit: We did not design the site ourselves but a designer did. Layeredtech's slideshow setup is flash while ours is javascript.

Actually I really like it. lol.

I've been looking for something to replace the security disaster of a news script i had on eplaces. I stuck an ad in there now, but i think I'll replace that and the stuff above it with something similar.

Anyway, yeah after looking again that's not even close to a rip. It's like saying this is a rip of the vbulletin skin because they layout is similar.

I think too many people are quick to jump into accussing others of ripping things because they look similar. Whether it's for some other reason, or using it as a weapon to destroy a competitors reputation (not saying at all that this is the case here). I just wanted to step in and remind people that the best designs on the net all have similarities of other websites. There is no harm in liking a section of a website and incorporating it into something of your own or for a client. That seems to be all that happened here. And it's been done well too I may add.

I don't see anywhere that I said it was a "rip", nor was my point (it appears you all missed the real information here) the 1234 selector. Structurally, they look very similar. Much of the wording is similar. Thats all I'm pointing out.

I struggle and fail to see why you even commented on the above to be honest. My comments were directed at the idea as a whole, not at anyone in particular, hence why I said '(not saying at all that this is the case here)'. As for your actual comments, I could see why people would have assumed you were accussing them from 'ripping', as it's the only reason I see for starting the thread in the first place, unless you forgot to add why you were commenting on it.

Honestly, the only part of these websites that seems similar to me (I include wording and so on) is the "1, 2, 3, 4" information selector :peace:

I can't see many similarities either - only the 1,2, 3, 4 Flash presentation seems so similar as copied.

I think that any case where similarity between sites is evident ( not in this situation) has to do more with the owners of the sites.

The layout is actually more different than similar. The only similarity is the "Flash box", I'm sorry to say.
