i have paypal which is what i currently use but am looking to transfer my US $ money to the states and keep it there as i can then use that direct to pay suppliers in the states via wire transfer
International wire transfer costs a fortune and is slow i have found

Also would be easiler for my google checkout and associated accounts to be paid in the US account in $ and then use that funds to pay for my servers that are in the US etc

you may turn to companies that provide incorporation services in the US and they could help you to open account with the US bank

Here are a few names:

BankOfAmerica, Washington Mutual, Wachovia, SunTrust, CitiBank.

We currently use Bank of America, Washington Mutual. I would much rather use Washington Mutual over all listed above. I hope this helps you...

I would grab an LLC in the U.S., and then grab a Washington Mutual business account, they have been awesome in terms of service, rates, etc...

You can get them in some of the major banks if you walk in in person

Don't forget you registering a LLC as a Uk individual is slightly more complicated and you do have to make sure you do it with the right company. (Prefferably a Solicitors/Lawyer)

Try reading this: http://a-web-biz.com/forming-llc.htm

I hope it will answer some of the questions that you have. Best of luck!

Washington Mutual is much more friendly when it comes to small businesses.

I have found that you can use www.accountnow.net they open a "virtaul" bank account with a debit mastercard, and they have some fees on every debit made, but it is considered a full bank account with the account number and routing number, and I know it works perfectly with google checkout. Though on second thought, I'm not sure if they open accounts if you don't have a social security number. If you do have one, they will open you an account regardless of your credit history or chexsystems issues.

Usually it is easier to walk into a bank, especially like Bank of America since it is a world bank and open an account. Walking in, this has satisified the YKYC (you know your customer) regulation. And then a social security number is not needed. The only time a SSN would be needed is if the account was interest bearing.

eTrade has been known to open a few account from time to time as well

Another way to hopefully validate the YKYC regulation is by talking to some of your local banks. If they have a relationship with a bank in the United States, they might be able to help you open an account that way as well. Check with some of the smaller banks - you might be surprised at what you find out

I was looking into this and I had a quick off-chance search on eBay to see what it brought up...

So far i've seen that you can open free US bank accounts and I think I will be doing so shortly!

Search on eBay: us bank account

Brings up quite alot!

Hope it helps!
