View Full Version : Beginning of the end for AletiaHosting???
Adam_DeJaray 07-12-2002, 07:40 AM ALETIA IS SCREWED! I think we may be witnessing the beginning of the end for aletiahosting.com. If you read their forums, several people have signed up, had their money taken by them and yet, they haven't had their accounts activated (me being one of them!). One guy hasn't had this account activated in 8 days! No one is getting answers to support tickets and apparently, they are running out of money. Their system is reporting bandwidth VERY INACURATELY! Many people have had their sites suspended due to excessive bandwidth, yet they have gone no where near the maximum amount. I filled a complaint with www.bbb.org and www.fbi.gov because, what they are doing is FRAUD, plain and simple. They are taking peoples money and not providing the services which were paid for. Furthermore, they are suspending accounts left and right to avoid bankruptcy and save on bandwidth charges. They haven't even had a server upgrade in months and their current servers are overloaded (many averaging massive load times). Hopefully this post will raise awareness so no one else will go trhough the awful headaches of trying to get a response from their cookie-cutter staff!!!
SAY NO TO ALETIA!
Adam
cedwards 07-12-2002, 07:42 AM SAY NO TO DRUGS TOO! :stickout
Hmm yeah i woudlnt go for them. Looks like they are about to either die out or something. THey definitly are not trying ot be better lol.
Adam_DeJaray 07-12-2002, 07:48 AM LOL @ DRUGS!
It's a shame this is happening to aletia... they used to be considered the #1 hosting company around. I guess this proves the point that: Overselling + Bad Tech Support = DEATH!!!!!
Silly Janine 07-12-2002, 08:17 AM Adam, I believe I talked to you on Aletia's boards :)
They shut my site down for 'excessive bandwidth'. I'm allowd 10 gigs a month. I had just checked my bandwidth two days before they shut me down. I was at 500. now, i look, and I'm at 11,000. Even if I looked at the original number wrong and it was actually 5,000, that's an awful lot of data transfer to go through in two days...
I sent in a critical ticket (even offering to pay for more gigs) and it has been 24 hours with NO response.
I'm really upset with this.
*sigh*
RackNine 07-12-2002, 08:17 AM their cookie-cutter staff!!!You can't catch me, I'm the gingerbread man!
Be careful of broad-reaching arguments like this. Looks like a very vocal minority is having problems, I wouldn't consider this the end until I heard it from more people or saw an ad on http://www.f---edcompany.com/
:)

Adam_DeJaray 07-12-2002, 08:32 AM It's far more than a minority. There are literly hundreds of posts scattered across WHT and Aletia. Just do a search for "aletia" on WHT... you'll see MANY negative posts about them over the past month. Plus, the censorship over at AletiaForums is the absolute worst! They never respond to posts or problems that users are having, or even bother to respond to support tickets..... but boy oh boy, when it comes to deleting forum posts, they got the fastest censorship-hands in the west! Aletia has like, 15 servers and probably nearing 5000+ clients... no wonder their load-times are always way up!
Andrew 07-12-2002, 08:39 AM AletiaForums is pretty cool...I especially like the forum mod who's just as disillusioned as everyone else.
Adam_DeJaray 07-12-2002, 09:30 AM eh... don't use big words in my thread. All words must be limited to eight letters :)
nvphone 07-12-2002, 11:11 AM Good luck with your complaint!
Who do you complaint to?
The mail drop person at the phony address?
A few months back I did a deep search and came up with people listed as owners. I was able to track down home address for same.
A few had phone numbers listed which I was able to find.
Do a search and should be able to find this information to help you.
Hint:
Search the Nevada Corporation commission website.
Then search the phone listings for the towns listed as their address.
It took some time, but very nice information.
Good-luck to you and others.
ntwaddel 07-12-2002, 12:08 PM that is crazy they consider themselves a corporation? How did they get so big anyways? How many customers do you think they have?
bigboat 07-12-2002, 02:27 PM First time poster, but very frustrated w/ Aletia and
a) want to share my experience, and
b) ask for alternatives that have as much as they had for the price
(especially php, multi-hosted domains, free parked domains, no set-up $$)
Just cancelled an order with Aletia that I placed on the 6th. I gave them a few days to respond b/c of the holiday weekend, but six days is rediculous!!!
Here's what happened:
When I signed up on the 6th, I immediately got a confirmation email from their payment processing company, paysystems.com, that they approved my c.c.
(When I signed up for an account w/ Aletia a few months earlier, my c.c. confirmation email was followed within an hour by an email from Aletia giving me account details.)
That 2nd email never happened this time.
As experienced by others in these threads, I contacted their support dept several times. When I submitted a new call as "critical", I finally got a response. But it was from a tech support person asking for more info to share with the "account" people. I quickly submitted the requested info, and have not heard back since. That was like Tuesday.
So, I just went to Paysystems, who not only have a phone number, but answered it right away. They are starting a "payment dispute" w/ Aletia for me and will have my $10 back in a few days.
Don't host there.

Hi Bigboat,
I'm sorry to hear of the bad experience that you had, as are many other hosts here I would imagine. You might want to post that request for alternatives in the "Web Hosting Requests" forum as well though as any host making an offer to you in this forum would be in trouble with the moderators. I'm sure you'll be inundated with responses if you make such a post!
One small point though - if Aletia really are in trouble because of overselling, and I have no idea if that's the case or not, then looking for another host that offers the same thing for the same price might be asking for a repeat problem.
Best wishes with your search,
Simon.
Southpawz 07-12-2002, 04:10 PM I signed up for Aletia on Sunday. It's now Friday and my account has not been set up and no one has responded to my repeated requests for more info and account setup. I will be disputing my charge with my credit card as soon as it shows up - so far they say my card hasn't been charged.
bigboat 07-12-2002, 04:37 PM Found this contact info on AnyWho.com; I called but did not leave a message as I thought it might be the wrong number. All other numbers I found for Aletia are either "not in service" or are a fax machine.
Aletia Corporation
Stateline, NV 89449 775-588-0994
My existing account with them is still fine - up and running. Think they'll pull the plug? Or just transfer the domains to the company that they resell for?
edude 07-12-2002, 04:39 PM lol, isn't the owner of Aleitia a frequent poster on these forums?

Not defending anyone here, but we had the same thing happen to a few clients. There was something going hirribly wrong with the way cpanel/whm was reporting the bandwidth. We temp increased the clients quota, got the bug fixed, and then restored the normal quota. It wasnt anyones fault, the software just didnt work this particular time.
Of course we have also had clients shoot from 10gig to over 40gig by the end of the day. whm/cpanel only checks once in 24hrs so the client was quite alarmed when we told him he was over by XX amount . Of course it turned out he had a large program on his site that was download hundreds upon hundreds of times that day.
iamdave 07-12-2002, 06:34 PM I feel bad for all of you, and hope you all get your issues with them resolved.
edude 07-12-2002, 07:07 PM Cpanel proves to be unreliable once again, hey jag ;)

Yeah, we had the same thing happen about a year ago. We signed up a new customer around 10pm EST. As you know CPanel runs bandwidth checks at night. The customer never even uploaded a file to their account, and the next day CPanel reported 67.6 GB of traffic. :-)
Whoops!
We temporarily uped his BW to 100 GB per month, and the next day CPanel recounted and his BW was back down to near 0 where it should have been. Strange indeed, but I think they've fixed whatever bug caused this as we haven't seen it happen in a long, long time.
Take care,
Brian
Adam_DeJaray 07-12-2002, 09:06 PM Cpanel is buggy sometimes... but this bandwidth problem with aletia has been going on for a long time. According to the forums post by the admin, it's been going on since Januay/2002. Even though bandwidth is calculated entirely wrong, it doesn't stop them from auto-suspending accounts and then not activating them for days (like whats happening to janine!). BTW I'm opening up a dispute w/ paysystems too... before I take the matter to my CC company. Thank god the people at paysystems dont have their heads up their asses!

He used to be... would be nice if he would stop by and tell us all what the heck is going on and give us some answers to our questions. After all, his "promotions" were the things that got us all involved w/ aletia............

What promotions were there, have a link or anything to review?

Those were the three "promotions" that were done. Do a search for "aletia" and go back about 6 months and you'll see ALOT of talk about them... they were considered the "best host" by many people for quite a while.
Adam_DeJaray 07-13-2002, 04:52 AM hah, the admin over at www.aletiaforums.com banned my IP address. What an idiot. Can you say "censorship"? Guess they don't want their members to know what's really going on. Thank god for free speech at WHT :)
s2green 07-13-2002, 12:45 PM Agree with you!
TrishM 07-13-2002, 05:03 PM Well since I've been posting all over these boards on Aletia' threads that they owed me money, I guess I should also post that I finally received said money today.
Funny thing? I filed with the BBB and IFCC yesterday regarding them and my lack of refund to awake to a refund this morning.
It only took 81 days to get!
