I am trying out Godaddy Windows VPS for some smaller sites (small as in no of visitors but yet pretty resourceintensive) and I am pretty impressed considering the low price. Perf is actually ok for IIS and SQL2005 with only 384MB, but I would not try to use it for anything else. No http downtime in two months, although some ping downtime, not sure why.

I second the vote for Maximumasp. Very good ASP.NET VPS and Dedicated Hosting provider.

If you want a quality and reliable web host that provides great services, then its going to be a little more expensive than other hosts. I am always amazed with developers who wish to save a few dollars and deal with a unprofessional web host then pay a little more money and get top notch hosting services.

Hi

When looking for a windows VPS look for more ram than you would look for with a linux VPS. From experience in selling VPS's Windows uses allot more ram that linux would.

I would like to suggest dedicated servers, as many dedicated servers are available on cheapest rate

are they fully managed dedicated servers?? $75 a Celeron server you will get at all places.

I prefer to go for a dedicated server rather then VPS. Yes if you are just starting start with reseller plan and then VPs and then server.

When you buy a dedicated server do see if its fully managed or self managed servers.

If you buy self managed server then you have to manage complete server which in many cases will not be possible or time consuming. If you hire 3rd company to manage the cost will shoot up like anything.

Chris what are you looking to run on your VPS? SQLexpress? ASP.NET? etc. When selecting a VPS make sure you get enough memory for what you're running or planning to run.

We find the biggest constraints on VPSes is Memory and Disk I/O. Memory is really the killer though. On a dedicated server running some sort of control panel, mail server, etc you're going to want atleast 1GB of memory. On a VPS running Virtuozzo and Plesk, I'd recommend atleast 512. The VPS is going to use about 125MB itself with no sites.

I agree there, ive used 386 meg of ram VPS and they need more than that if you want to get some decent performance. Except linux ones :)
