Hello everyone,

I am here to ask for advices in web hosting business.

I have 6 linux servers with www.rackshack.net and I am doing web hosting for Brazil, I have more or less 400 customers in this servers.

I am in canada and I really liked the "Fast XServe" model: http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/canadastore.woa/155/wo/Svy2y1leaDkANTSyRe/0.3.0.3.30.37.5.0.1.3.1.3.1.1.0?87,109

I want to buy this server (Fast model) and put in a xDSL connection (1mbps download / 512kbps upload) in Canada.

Does the XServe come with any control panel ? (Users).

Is it a good idea ? What is the bads, What is the goods ?

I was thinking yesterday about this package 01:

<<Please ask about packages in the Related Offer and Request forum>>

what do you think guys ? Is it a good deal ?

Please guys give me advices as been as possible

xserve isn't really meant for shared hosting...

Well considering alot of web hosting companies offer approx. 1GB Space and 10+GB Bandwidth for USD $20, I'll let you work that out for yourself! ;)

It depends on the features of the package aswell, you may need to go into more details of the hosting package. Some customers may also be interesting in knowing your server details.

200 plus accounts on a 512K connection? That could cause trouble.

To be honest for what you are charging it is silly to host anything on the Xserve.

IMO!

It is a good server powerful indeed but also sucks alot of power and sometimes i feel like its going to overheat.

Its is currently been used for a asset management system full of pics and other graphics and it seems to be running on a high load. There are not many uses online either.. its seems that the processing power is not as good as i thought it would be for a mac server!

Yeah UNIX is beautiful of course but it has hanged a few times with the processor switching off because being overheated etc.

We have replaces it but the new one still does the same.

I just think that in the end we are going to put this site back on the Sparcs and thats it for the Xserve.

Remember this is in my own opinion...

Kind regards
