View Full Version : Guy did not pay me and he's looking for next victim
virgil 07-11-2002, 09:11 PM http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=60132
Remember this story? This person didn't pay for the php order form I created, and now he's looking for the next victim. This is also Samuel Barr by the way.
Gem Hexen 07-11-2002, 09:42 PM Can you explain a little better?
DarrenK 07-11-2002, 09:47 PM What Story? And if the story was a topic on WHT you may want to considering searching it and posting it!? ;)

TotallyHosted.net is the same as eshoredirect.com. The company is run by Samuel Barr and Ben Hawker. Whether these persons are the same could be possible. Last May, he asked me to create a php order form for totallyhosted.net, a form similar to gearhost.com. He paid 15% but refused to pay the remaining. His reason is his credit card company is hassling him and paypal is "f*cking" him up. A web designer here, posted a similar complaint as he designed their web site and didn't get paid. Now's this person is looking for a programmer and it's just quite ridiculous to find him here looking for another person to scam.

phatronic 07-12-2002, 07:10 AM From what i`ve heard, Samual Bar was the one responsible for this situation, TotallyHosted.net which is now owned by Ben Hawker already explained what happened, and he shouldnt be the one to point finger at.
< I think so, lol >
virgil 07-12-2002, 07:46 AM It is Ben Hawker whom I provided the script for and he is the one who is supposed to pay me. He blames Samuel Barr but that is his problem. The bottom line is he has not given me my payment and he is looking for another programmer. That is not fair.
I'm confused. If you didn't give him the script yet, then how have you been ripped off? I know you spent your time on it, but now that it is done, can't you sell it to some one else to get your money?
THBen 07-12-2002, 03:02 PM LET ME REPEAT
Hi,
My name is Ben Hawker I am the owner of Totally Hosted. Lets clear a few things up guys....
When I bough the Eshore Hosting from Mr Barr I bought it under certain conditions and one being that Samuel pay for a new web design and sognup script, he agreed.
I am totallyshocked at whats going on here as i havn't been kept in the loop.

Woah! Since when did programmers start getting paid on the condition of when the buyer decides to put the site up and then make a profit.
Jedito 07-12-2002, 04:01 PM Ohh that's a great idea, I'll buy an airplane and start an air line, but I'll start to pay it when we're fully operational and in profit.

Unfortunately, given the state of the airline industry, and the disproportionate number of bankruptcies, I think that is how it is run :D.
Also, not to jump on the flaming bandwagon here, but:

Your not hosted until your Totally Hosted
At least make an attempt at proper grammar in your signature. Your is possessive, you're is the contraction. Unless you are implying that "not" belongs to "your", you should say:
You're not hosted until you're Totally Hosted
Although, contractions are not always appropriate in business communication, so it would probably read better extended to:
You are not hosted, until you are Totally Hosted

Not too bad, I had a real good interview with Mitre (http://www.mitre.org) today and I am interviewing with Riptech (http://www.riptech.com/) on Monday (assuming the baby doesn't pop out over the weekend :)).
I'm kind of lucky that I have developed a lot of contacts over the last 6 years, many of my friends cannot even get in the door :(.
uuallen, you're close.
His sig should say "You're not paid until we're Totally Profitable"
hmmmm, I wonder if I can get my Truck detailed, and then tell the shop I will pay them when I win a show.

Thanks! SO you're not going to pay him, until your company is profitable? I'm afraid it doesn't work that way. He wrote a script for you and you have it and have the ability to use it, so he should be paid.
Incognito 07-12-2002, 08:36 PM Let's see.....how about this.....do you think it will work....I will order a few hundred additional servers, with the understanding that I don't have to pay for any of them until I'm clearing at least $1 million per month......
edude 07-12-2002, 08:41 PM lol uuallen, good luck with the bee's

Mabey we should start to charge a % from there profit then instead of a flat fee for programming work. Say for 3 years. Good idea, what do you think?
