Hi,

I am wondering if someone can register domain like solution.name or xpuppy.name?

I got the following message when trying to register a name that is not a company name nor a person's name.

=============================
To register a .name top level domain (TLD) it must come from a person’s name. This is either the legal name of a person or the name the person is professionally known by, for example a pseudonym or a stage name. This name must be the personal name of a natural being or a fictitious character of which you possess a registered copyright or trademark. It may begin or end with numbers to set it apart from other people with the same name. I hereby confirm that I have read and understood the above and confirm that I have a right to register this .name domain.

That's kinda interesting. I now have two .name domains for personal use. One I registered as new and the other I grabbed after it expired. Neither time did I see anything like what you just posted. One I can honestly say is my name but the other one is the name of a city I don't live in. If my registrar had asked me to abide by that rule I would not have registered the city .name domain. Who is your registrar?

The TLD is .name just like .com and .net. So it would be YourName.name. In other words bob.name or smith.name.

I am using 1and1.com. This may involve with deep legal issue. I would not know. What happen if I register "XWoman.name" the time that "XWoman" was not a popular name, but later, it becomes popular as a Rock Roll band?

In the middle of my typing of this post, 1and1.com on the phone that the name that I registered is legal since it is generic. :)

I guess it would not be "legal" for me to register something like GeorgeBush.name? ;)

I think it is not legal too unless your name is called George Bush.

The name I registered was ipc.name.

The representative told me that it is perfectly legal for me to register for the name. However, this is probably the last .name domain that I will reserve since I found them not very valuable through a domain sold price list.
