MoSupaFly 07-11-2002, 06:59 PM My PC is kinda old... but it kicked butt back in its days when I built it some umm... 4-5(?) years ago
Asus P2B-LS (built in U2W SCSI controller and NIC)
Pentium II 450 MHz (once o/c to 500MHz! hahaha)
256MB RAM (it actually only had 128MB about 2 weeks ago... I just upgraded! haha)

All stuffed into a Supermicro server case (you know... those really tall ones... wow it's huge).

It still works... and I'm happy. One day (yeah... I've been saying this for over a year) I'll build myself a new computer.

I bet if you ask about server specs, I'll be willing to bet most will be Intel. ;)
NetXL 07-12-2002, 10:07 AM Currently:
Intel Celery 433
384mb Ram
Abit BF-6 mobo with slot 1 convertor :)
28gb Seagate 7200rpm
40gb Fujitsu 7200rpm
SBLive! 1024
TNT2U32 (Asus v3800)
Sony 24x Writer
Planning to buy:
P4 2.26ghz
512 DDR 2100
Geforce 4 Ti 4200
Abit IT-7 motherboard
Mmmm. :)
cabalstudios 07-12-2002, 12:28 PM Well,
I had the choice between the XP 2200+ and the INTEL 2.53GHz.
The reason I didnt get the INTEL was because, theres no board released on the market that can take 1GB of 1060mhz RIMMs.
There is the ASUS board but that only has 2 RIMM slots  512MB max, as there are no 512MB RIMMs avaiable either  only 256MB ones
The intel board with 4 RIMM slots isnt released yet :(
Anyhow, I'm happy with the spec I just got.
My address is NeverNeverLand, for the guys who want to pick the machine up :stickout

Not here. I prefer AMD over Intel in every machine I use. There are a few Intel based PC's that I have but they are workstations and the max MHz on any one of them is 600MHz. I've always been an AMD fan and I have setup and used tons of servers using AMD processors. Never had a problem yet. Just my preference though...

Can you do me a favour and check to see if you have 4 RIMM slots on your board, if you do have you got 4*256 chips or 2*512 to make 1GB or ram.
I would also like to know which mboard it is please.
DanielP 07-12-2002, 03:21 PM 4 slots, 2, 512 chips with two slots filled with buffer chips.
RDRAM requires all slots to be filled to operate, so they have dummy or buffer chips which have to be placed in the remaining slots.
I'll see if I can pull up the brand in a bit.
iamdave 07-12-2002, 04:12 PM My next PC will have the following specs:
