View Full Version : 100 or 1000 mbs Connections
Woogs 07-11-2002, 04:10 PM I am looking for places that offer the 100 or 1gbs connections for cheap, such as cogent (cheap as compared to T3s, etc)
So far I know of...
Cogent, $3,000 / $20000 /mo (100/1000)
Yipes, price?
Aleron, price?
Anyone else out there?
cabalstudios 07-11-2002, 04:17 PM CogentCo dosent offer 1000mbps for $20,000k no more its $30,000k now.
Imran
porcupine 07-11-2002, 04:27 PM Cogent's pricing will be going up also very soon :bawling:
apollo 07-11-2002, 04:27 PM oh.. they raised their pricing?
porcupine 07-11-2002, 04:32 PM no, they're about to though :(. Woogs, what do you need a cogent connection for? You wont find any carrier cheaper, the next cheapest you'll find will be around 3-6x their price realistically (at 100mbps at least).

I saw Yipes pricing at $25 / Mbps
Woogs 07-11-2002, 05:25 PM $25 / mbs is very cheap - I will need to look into Yipes.
I need it for my hosting company, 4 T1's are more than 100 mbs thru these places, so I will be saving a lot of money instead of using T3s.

I'm guessing your talking about running to a building and not a predone datacenter...
Cogent won't give you the line unless you already have all the fiber already run to your building...

LOL, where was this? If you bought 1gbps?
I've seen quotes under $100 for a lot of major providers if you get gigabit from them, last i checked yipes was over $100/mbit for the 100mbit connections, i think it was around $200/mbit.
mdrussell 07-11-2002, 05:57 PM Yeah it was on a gig-e connection.
porcupine 07-11-2002, 06:09 PM yea well thats a pretty useless price as it's out of 99.9% of peoples range :) it's better to evaluate prices at 10mbps 50mbps and 100mbps from my experiences, because those are ranges you somedya may have a prayer of requiring, and in those ranges, yipes is still uber expensive (for what they provide, they have relatively high prices from what i've been quoted, but i've heard not so great stuff about their network, thats just my experience though, not actual fact.) last i checked :)
BiGWill 07-11-2002, 06:15 PM you heard bad things about yipes? can't believe it!
i don't have any personal experience with them (since i'm in Europe ...) but what i can say, is that webreseller's yipes pipe really ROCKS! :)

Tetraboy 07-11-2002, 06:47 PM I've heard verio is very cheap now adays. Sub $100 at 100Mbps and way lower up at Gig-E levels.

Got a # of a rep? I find this hard to believe but ill give them a call.
Woogs 07-11-2002, 09:23 PM Already got fiber in the building so its all good.
As for Yipes, what increments do they sell in? Does anyone sell just 25 or 50 mbs instead of getting 100 / 1000?
The Prohacker 07-11-2002, 09:30 PM To get Yipes for 25/mbit you must buy it in GigE allotments :)
Woogs 07-11-2002, 09:31 PM What is a GigE allotment?
porcupine 07-11-2002, 09:31 PM yipes does anything from 1-100 i believe.

Not a problem, got a rep so I dont get jerked around when I call?
Thanks
mdrussell 07-12-2002, 04:11 AM I only 'saw' prices in that range, I didn't speak to a rep myself. I'll see if I can get a name though...
