Last November we purchased a Modernbill 5 perpetual license 1000 from Nethosts.biz in UK, in response to their discount offer. Few days later we were given the MB login username and password to generate our license key. Being a newbie, we didn't take no notice of the detail of the license.

Not until January 2007, we wanted to upgrade our perpetual 1000 to 2000, we were shock to find that the perpetual 1000 license supplied by nethosts.biz is actually a 6 months 1000 leased license!! So after a few rounds of email sending back and forth and ticket submission to nethosts.biz, they finally admitted that they screwed up and instead of upgrading to perpetual 1000, offered to refund me. Desperate to upgrade, I took the offer and fully expected the full refund the next day...

It's now 25th April, and there is still no sign of any refund in my Paypal account. Numerous emails and tickets submitted to nethosts.biz were ignored. Phone call will be answered with "waiting for approval by management", (John/George, if you're there reading this, you know what I am talking about).

I then sent an email to MGB and here's what I got:

" We really do appreciate your situation and we have contacted Mr. George on your behalf. He has given us assurances that he is appropriately dealing with your issues. However, at the end of the day, this becomes an issue between two individuals, neither of whom are us. We have made all the appropriate representations to our reseller and we have provided you all of the best advice available.

We are not a party to your transaction. We received a request for a leased 1000 reseller license and we provided it. We never received an order for anything else. We have never charged for or received money on a perpetual license or an upgrade. If Mr. George were to give us the go ahead on creating and charging for such a license on your behalf, we would do it. No such request has been forthcoming, despite repeated communications on your behalf.

Finally, let me be perfectly clear. We do not choose favorites or take sides. We have been in this business for many years and occassionally have these sort of situations occur. It has always served us well to do exactly what we are paid to do and no more. We never know who is telling the complete truth and we have no jurisdiction in determining it. We would be happy to server you as a customer if you decided that you wish to do so. We have made the appropriate representations on your behalf. But we cannot do more than we are paid to do ."

The lesson learnt: you're on your own risk dealing with reseller. Stay clear of nethosts.biz.

I never had a problem with nethosts.biz in that regard but there was issues with the exchange ratio that kept changing between USD and GBP. The cost of my license went up about $0.50 cents every month and eventually it was higher then a MB license directly from MB.

They are really a scam. What disgusted me were all the lies...
And they have the cheek to operate the modernbill forum...

Tell me about it.
I was ban from their forum because they were protecting their hosting company.

We too contacted MB and told them they should be careful who they use to represent their company. Some of their resellers are letting them down. We had no reply from MB.

Buying direct you don't get a much better service when it comes to MB though. There's a lot of threads on WHT and their forums with dissatisfied customers. Time to start looking at the alternatives...

Are they a registered, legal business in the UK? Seems like their website is poorly laid out and the text is atrocious. Might be a few pointers. I typically try to buy from the actual company and not a 3rd party after horrendous support from a UK provider who was a reseller for a billing script, but it wasn't Modern Bill.
