Thanks for the reply, elijah. You are right very overpriced! I want to purchase and put online a raQ3(if I can find) or raQ4. I recently rented a dedicated server. I will be opening my own hosting/web developing business within a month. Is my only option to rent a raQ?I have heard web host running web servers from thier bussiness. However, given that my client base will be growing fast (I hope),I will probably need a fast connection. Here are some of my questions clarified for anyone that cares to answer.

1)If I can't find a Data Center local, would it be feasible to run my web server from my office? (of course it would depend on the connection, but can a commercial web server be ran on say DSL? )

2)How hard is it to physically set up a raQ? I understand they come loaded with everything but don't know any other technical expertise I will need.

3) How hard is it to reload the operating system on raQ if anything goes wrong?

Thanks
Rick

elijah- Yes mon, I think we are close! I live about 15 miles south of L.A. near Manhattan Beach right off the 405.

Rick-
I'm not sure I'd recommend starting that web hosting biz on a DSL line. I like it, but I wouldn't throw a box on it (not all that reliable). It is fine when it is good, but when I have problems it is impossible to get support after M-F 9-5, which really ^%$#&%&* me off.

rekramer: i think some of the gurus here are with http://www.4webspace.com $99 per month raq3 or http://www.catalog.com buy the raq for $1200 and colo for $150 per month or ???

The raq is a good first linux machine , i have one since im still learning linux :O

chicken: yep, im here in laguna beach :P off PCH. i think we should talk to the guys at dynamic and see if they can offer us something like cheap servers or something, so we can all hangout over there :)

My guess is that just about everyone here is better off than me. I ran a search for good old Boise, Idaho and HostPro showed up. But considering the charge $50 for a virtual hosting account, they probably won't be too cost effective.

So...

I went ahead and opened my own NOC!

Brandons Hi Tech Noc:
- Located in a fan controlled bathroom (timer on fan)
- Plenty of Cabinet Space
- Shared Counter top Space
- Each cabinet has dedicated line to sink

Cabinets start at $1,000,000 per month*...Any Takers?

*Offer not Valid (Don't stick this in Advertising section)

Thanks,
Brandon

Not ethically or well. I have specific information on my site that tells you why.

Duster,

Found a couple spelling errors on:
http://techcellence.net/informationresource.htm

Sub-title: You can't trust the claims made by many.

Nice resources you've created there by the way, very informative.

Thanks,

Thanks. I found them and fixed them. Unfortunately, I frequently transpose letters.

I'm glad if you found the information helpful. That's what it's there for.

That's a very common approach (there's this new "internet" thing that lets you use computers that are far away from you, I've heard!)

(Duster will note the lack of emoticons, and will understand why)

Up where I live NOCs aren't too hard to find, about 45min away, and I can pick and choose from a ton of them.

rekramer-

You might check out http://www.bighosts.com/big-big-big/freebies/

It's not a complete list, but it would be a good start.
