Do you know of any dedicated server provider how also offer
local network storage.
So that I will be able to connect from my dedicated server ( maybe from the 2nd LAN adapter)
to the provider storage (EMC, Netapp etc). It can be in NFS or SMB protocol.

I know two:

1) rackspace.com offers SAN (Storage Area Network) which is tape driven.
2) datapeer.com also offers SAN.

Hope that helps.

SAN shouldn't be tape driven, it's generally Fiber Channel to large disk arrays mounted like local devices, very very fast.

NAS is over ethernet via SMB or NFS, much cheaper than SAN and limited generally to 100 MB/s.

Rackspace offers NAS, though I don't believe they offer SAN unless you make special arrangements with them.

Rackspace does offer NAS

It appears they may offer SAN as well, according to this article outlining a partnership with Atempo

well the sales rep at rackspace mentioned that their NAS is tape drive...I was quoting from him actually.

Interesting, I wouldn't think that Rackspace would employ those who didn't understand simple remote storage methods. :)

actually technically tape drive could be nas there are a variety of methods to allows you to back up to a tape drive and there are a large assortment of tape drive arrays on the market. But in general tape drives are slow and it doesnt make a lot of since to backup data over a network direct to a tape drive.

Nor does it make any sense to use a tape drive in a SAN environment as the first message indicates:rackspace.com offers SAN (Storage Area Network) which is tape driven. That's the one that really threw me for a loop. The sales rep at Rackspace seems a bit loopy.

I can see an application for NAS -> TAPE, if you have a large tape vault and several systems utilizing it. However it still seems more appropriate to go to a NAS array which is then backed up to tape.

Sorry Addady, didn't mean to get you too far off topic here. :) I think Rackspace does offer this as JG mentioned, alternatively depending on your needs you could buy a fairly cheap NAS device and colo that. Dell's 715T (I think) is a good value for entry level Network Attached Storage.

well, you are looking for a reliable data storage? why don't you build yourself SMB with RAID-5? It will cost you much less in long run rather than outsourcing this!

PS. don't forget your connection usage to the provider as well as security - you don't want to copy sensitive data over Internet without encryption... :D
