Hey Guys,

A little story for you. You might of seen on ModernGigabytes (people who make modernbill) an offer where if you upgrade or resell a modernbill license they will give you a $250 adwords credit + $75 for your clients... Sounds great doesnt it?

In early March we decided to upgrade to 1000 user license costing a couple of hundred extra dollars. They where so kind to include a $250 coupon for adwords with the upgrade :) Being all excited getting this free extra, a week or two later I went to claim it via adwords only to find the coupon had expired. Thinking I must of done something wrong I went to recheck the coupon I had received in my email.. After reading all the TOC attached with the coupon, I see coupon had expired 3 months before it was even given to me.. Thinking it was a mistake, I popped in a support ticket requesting another :) 5 days later I get a reply saying they are talking to google to find out what is happening and its not just as easy as givng me another coupon code...?

A week passes no reply by moderngigabyte.. So I put in a bump message to find out whats happening. 2 days later I get a reply.. So much for keeping up with that 24hr response/reply promise.. There exact reply is:

The complimentary adwords provided by google through our ModernAdvertise module had expired. Upon discussing this with their representatives the program was canceled late last week. I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.

Now the fact it was cancelled last week still means they issued me with an expired coupon well before they cancelled there modernadvertise system... (which if you still go to there website is still running) Am I wrong but isnt it fraud handing out an expired coupon? Now the fact I had been left hanging about I kinda expected some form of credit to be added to my account as promised but they decided to pull out all the dirty stops and just came back with the reply:

Your company is based in the UK. As outlined within the terms of service, this program was only eligible for organizations in North America.

Sorry but am I wrong to feel kinda screwed over for there mistake?

They also told me I'm no longer allowed to signup there anymore because I've had (quite a few) leased licenses in the past and it's considered "abusive" to signup and cancel later on.

Without knowing the numbers Nick I don't think anyone can argue, but I can see where someone signing up licenses and canceling them frequently could become a problem.

I've been a reseller for MGB since the program started. I can definitely see how this could happen and not be your fault. So i'm not just saying that i'm on their side. Just that it's plausible

Well, I have signed up and canceled a considerable number of times (in all cases simply because I was not using the software anymore, and later on signed up as I needed it again). However, I never violated their EULA or did a chargeback -- and I always followed the proper procedure to cancel the license instead of just not paying for it.

I would always think that they'd like the business :P

Anyways, I don't want to hijack this thread.

I think they decided they don't care whose business they get a long time ago. :)

To the OP:

If being in the UK really disqualified you then you're kinda SOL, but it's odd that they would have issued you a coupon in the first place in that event.

Sounds more like mid-way through an "oh crap!" moment, they noticed he was from the UK and realized they had an easy out.

Tina,

Totally agree with you and as soon as that popped up in support ticket reply I did indeed curse to myself. Would love to see a reply from ModernGigabyte here... :)

As far as I am aware, MGB is not worth my time doing business with. I have nothing but bad experience with them, their reseller and their consultant (so called advisor).

I am looking to switch away from MB5, any suggestion? I only need a billing system with radius support.

If true, this story does not surprise me even on tiny little bit.

ModernGygabyte has proven themselves to me multiple times that they don't care about their customers. Their business is about making money, regardless if it means "stretching the truth", outright dishonesty, or fraud.

I would not recommend anyone do business with ModernGigabyte even if they were the last "billing" company on earth. I'd rather use a manual spreadsheet.

I've recently been looking at billing solutions and seeing this (and other threads) now makes me a lot more precautious about it.

Stay as far away from Modernbill if you can. I heard Silverstar soon to be released by Saeven.net rocks...

Anyone has any info on this?

Keep in mind that whenever ANY software or company is on the top of the hill, which MGB is they'll have a lot more complaints like this.

I'm not defending them in this action as I don't have a solid opinion either way, but take a negative thread with the understanding that there are thousands of customers, maybe even tens of thousands that aren't complaining.

Like I said, whenever a company is on top they're the first one to get bashed.

You should do a search on all the webhosting forum, you will be able to see a pattern in the complaints - customer service, vendor integrity.

We don't choose to bash them because they are at the top, we bashed them because they couldn't even deliver what they promised - a working product.

Well, think about this.

It's been almost a year since V5 of MB was released, and V5 still does not support all V4 does.

It's not so much that we like bashing the billing solution we use, it's more that we simply can't avoid not being actively displeased with the product we've gotten in return.

Many of us have been waiting on a single module which has not been completed because it's 'difficult'.

It's just an interesting situation. :)
