View Full Version : Namecheap locked my account until 2099?
I emailed them and tried calling them, I will just have to wait. I tried to log into my account today because a domain of my expired. I got no warning on why my account was closed.
Unable to login
For security reasons, this account has been locked due to too many failed login tries. The user name will be enabled after 12/12/2099 EST. If you think this is an error please email us using the same email address currently on your account to have your account enabled
I have to wait 87 years until I can get my domain back? Anyone experience this before? No one knows my account name, I failed to enter my correct password once, then I entered the correct one.
cwhkyle 04-20-2007, 12:11 AM Wow that is strange. I'm sure it isn't going to be like that forever. Just give thema call.
Yeah I am just wondering if anyone has had this happen before. A google search only reported 1-2 results on the matter. I just hope I can get this solved before I lose my domain permanently.
FreshFroot 04-20-2007, 01:10 AM It has happen't to a few people before. Send their support desk and email and they will let you know what's going on. Usually I think it's done, because mabye you didn't pass the fraud check area?
What is the fraud check area?
CameronH 04-20-2007, 02:15 AM I think that it sounds like a clerical error, You should really ring them ASAP
FreshFroot 04-20-2007, 02:42 AM Best thing to do is email them.. we aren't the support for namecheap :p Email them and wait, they will tell you what's going on and help you ;)
enetwork 04-20-2007, 06:38 AM Hello RDX1. This status usually has to do with suspected fraud, chargeback or something similar. The fraud department will be in at around 7am PST. I am sure they will handle your situation then.
RossH 04-20-2007, 09:45 AM RDX1,
Are you a new customer?
RDX1,
Are you a new customer?
No, I have had the same account with them for around 5 years.

I already said I did, I was just wondering if anyone else has received this message before. If people did not come to WHT for any kind of support/discussion then the forum would have 5 posts. ;)

They said it was closed due to suspected fraud. My domain name expired yesterday and I need to renew it ASAP. I always use paypal to pay them and never a credit card, always adding a balance to my NC account. I have not made a recent purchase, unless 2-3 months ago is recent... So it may be fraud and they are trying to help. My biggest concern is my domain I need to renew for my business.
RossH 04-20-2007, 11:55 AM Richard,
It is pretty alarming that your team lock a 5 year old customers account....
They just called and it was because a payment failed when I renewed my domains over a month ago. I guess my account has been locked since then? It was unlocked and I was able to renew my domains that were about to expire.

While I understand that sentiment, it's not unusual for a registrar to do that if they have every legitimate reason to suspect fraudulent activity. I remember dealing with a similar case that was eventually resolved to everyone's satisfaction, though the customer did vent.

Ross, as you can see, his account was locked for a failed payment, which I think, is understandable. It doesn't mean we disabled any of his domains.
Nevertheless, the matter has been resolved.
linux-tech 04-21-2007, 01:13 PM It would seem that it would be more effective to send the customer a mail stating something like:
"Your payment has failed for these domains. It is important that this issue gets resolved immediately to avoid further denied access to your account." When this happens.
Of course they might, I've never had a domain fail payment, but it would definitely help keep things like this away from here :)
Glad to hear it got resolved :)

Linux Tech, that is typically the procedure. Especially with established customers.
I am not up to date with the entire situation as someone from our fraud department handled it and advised me that it had been taken care of. I will check and see if an email was sent out.

The failed payment was not my fault. Google had an issue, right after it failed I paid with Paypal. It's no big deal, Namecheap has been good over the years. (Although I do with they had a new code for renewals. :D) I just came here to see if anyone else had encounter this message as I was wondering what I meant in the meantime while I waited for support. All my domains worked, I was just more worried that I wouldn't be able to renew my expiring domain, I was and I renewed two of my domains.
premium20 04-22-2007, 03:02 AM All is well that ends well :-)
Radu|WHMTalk 04-22-2007, 07:07 AM NameCheap locked my account until 2099 as well long time ago, I had 25 domains in it (most of which where sites).
I tried emailing them, but they never answered me.
Did they answer you?

Radu,
Let's get the facts straight here.
1. There were only 10 domains in your account.
2. You must be a very fast worker as your account was locked 2 days after you registered the domains and originally signed up with us. Getting 10(or 25 as you claim) sites up in 48 hours is impressive.
3. We received a paypal chargeback from you for the payment of the domains.
4. The domains you registered were all deleted and are still available for registration to this day even though it's been close to a year.
5. You opened up another account with us after we shut down your original one even though you claim we never responded to you.
6. Please get ahold of us, we would like nothing more than to recover the chargeback fees and damages you cost us.
Radu|WHMTalk 04-22-2007, 08:39 AM I contacted you asking what's the problem.
The paypal chargeback was cos someone accessed my account, and wanted to steal the money.
Since there was no money, they thought about asking a chargeback from you. Of course, you should have deleted my account and reply only to one email of mine, which hasn't helped me at all, and when I sent you once more, you never bothered to reply.
And I NEVER opened second account.
4. The domain you registered were all deleted and are still available for registration to this day.
Really? I tried registering them after my account was closed, and they weren't available.
So if you say same day, supposing that its so, someone else registered them, so I lost them anyway.
And there were domains which I have never purchased with that stupid money which got refunded.
This is my story. The real one.
I never told people about this fact, I thought that there must have been a mistake. When I saw this thread, I thought that no, it's not a mistake, if someone else has the same problem.
But I'll stop here regarding your registar. As I have stopped when you have closed my account without bothering replying.
enetwork 04-22-2007, 08:47 AM And I NEVER opened second account.
Radu,
I am sitting here looking at both your accounts including the one you opened on 11/6/2006 after we closed your original one. They both use the same names in the mail address, the same password and your username here in some form.
You were also dishonest about the amount of domains registered as well as hinting that they were established sites.
NameCheap locked my account until 2099 as well long time ago, I had 25 domains in it (most of which where sites).
I tried emailing them, but they never answered me.
Did they answer you?
If you have a problem you should take it elsewhere. Yes if you read the thread my problem was solved. I emailed them around 8pm and they responded around 10:30pm asking for my phone number and they called me in the morning and it was solved very easily.
Tyler 04-22-2007, 06:04 PM Nevertheless, the matter has been resolved.
Glad it was straightened out!
Seeing as the OP's issue is now fixed, thread closed.
