Hi,

I am currently using communitech to host 5 websites.
I am looking for a better solution that saves me some money and that doesn't cut my BB off when I have to many hits.
I have been thinking of getting a dedicated server, but I have no LINUX experience at all!

I have been looking at the RAQ4 server. Does anybody have any experience with these servers using MySQL, PHP4 and Vbulletin?
I have been looking at http://www.rackshack.net that seem to offer the cheapest solutions.

I have also been looking at http://www.Hostpro.com new Fredoom packages that give you a semi dedicated solution. Each account runs it's own OS with it's own RAM. They have no limits for CPU usage etc. The only drawbacks I can see are the bandwidth and storage specs.

I have also been looking at http://www.racklocation.com cheap $50 a month server, but I am not sure if I could administer such a server. How easy is it to learn to a Linux machine? Can it relly be properly controlled remotely? I have seen that some hosts like racklocation offer some kind of webadmin, are these enough to do most tasks?

Maybe I would be better of with something like http://www.hostrocket.com 's reseller solution's , but then I would be back with the CPU usage issues...

Any ideas/comments?

Thanks

Michael

For cheap cobalts go to uk2.net. 25$ is rediculous. But it can be explained by looking at their customers service terms. But cheap if that is what you want.

uk2.net has gotten the most wonderful comments (at least that I've seen). In fact, I'm wondering if I've ever seen a good comment about them.

I'd say the few you mentioned seem decent, though some I have no experience with. Haven't seen any posts re: rackshack though I know some others were looking at them as well. Also, there was a few poeple offering RaQs in the Advertsing Forum (I *think* Jeffrey of plusweb has one he'd like to lease).

http://www.dtwebworks.com and http://www.4webspace.com have inexpensive plans as well. Ummm, the http://wedgehost.com plans look good for what you get, but a bit overkill for what you need.

Also, we have a rather long list of hosts that you might want to look through:

If you're not familiar with Linux and you want a dedicated server, the RaQ is an excellent way to go. I haven't tried VBulletin, but PHP4 and MySQL run beautifully on a RaQ4.
