Hi,
I am planning to migrate my current virtual hosted sites to a dedicated w2k/iis 5 server soon (probably in 3 to 6 months down the road).
The only experience I had with dedicated hosting was administering a Cobalt Raq 3i several years back. Raq 3i control panel was simple to use and probably does not reflect the same learning experience with w2k/iis 5 administration.
I was wondering if someone could refer me to a good book which handles issue such as setting up DNS, HTTP and all the necessary stuffs to setting up a couple of web sites.
If anyone is interested in knowing why I selected w2k hosting is because I will need to run develop and deploy some ISAPI and custom servers.
Thanks.
Edwin

The URL's that I listed in this thread ( http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=54980 ), should contain most of the information that you need. iisfaq.com is a good place to start as well. :)

Edwin,
Try these:
(Microsoft)
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0735606528/qid=1026376938/sr=1-7/ref=sr_1_7/103-3676588-0423058
(William R Stanek)

You will find that books and much online stuff is not especially oriented to multiple domain web hosting and it can be rather frustrating to get up to speed. Microsoft seem to have this idea we all put one domain on each physical server...
If you use a good Windows-savvy datacentre for your server they will help you (you might need to pay for some of their time). Definitely do some experimentation and ask plenty of advice before you go live.

Chris,
Thanks for the information. I actually plan to experiment on
the server for a month or so before going live. Probably just
add one or two inactive domains to make sure I know what
I am doing.
Thanks again.

There are many books you can get for Windows 2000, you are probably best off getting more than one as you will find one for Win2k Server, DNS, IIS, MSSQL Server etc. The Microsoft Support Site also makes worthwhile reading. You might also want to look into getting the Microsoft books used by people who are sitting the MCSE exam, as they basically cover everything, however it is always best to get your information from more than one source, not just Microsoft.
Take a look at the Microsoft Press Site: http://www.microsoft.com/mspress/default.asp
