View Full Version : Google Checkout?
VINAX 04-18-2007, 03:21 AM Hi guys,
Did you try Google Checkout?
I see that they are offering: "until 2008, you can process all your Checkout orders for FREE" :D

Hostingsupport 04-19-2007, 02:56 AM Has anyone used Google Checkout yet ? If so, could you please post in your experience and how it compares to other providers.
DustinO 04-19-2007, 05:15 AM Earlier this month we launched an eCommerce site that exclusively uses Google Checkout for payment processing. It's relatively easy to implement and everything ties in well with Google AdWords and Analytics.
In the past I used 2CO (2CheckOut) and had problems. We also steered away from PayPal because it was going to be more costly to use them, since they charge a percentage of the sale for a credit card order as well as a transaction fee.
anilj 04-19-2007, 07:04 PM We use it and it works fine, its actually pretty nice! The problem is they don't "yet" offer recurring billing etc... Its primarily setup for selling products rather than services, for now.
taylorwilsdon 04-19-2007, 08:39 PM It works great. No recurring billing but otherwise its very solid, and you can't beat free! Payments post to our bank in about 1 day following the payment, which is amazing.
ldcdc 04-19-2007, 09:32 PM Thread moved to E-Commerce Discussion.
portalplanet 04-19-2007, 09:50 PM I use it on one of my sites (more but they haven't had any google checkout sales yet) and a client of mine uses it also. It's a level 2 checkout for osCommerce.

VINAX 04-19-2007, 11:29 PM We have just created a new Google Checkout account. Everything looks ok, but it's not great like Paypal. The only thing attracts us is that they offer FREE order processing until 2008. While paying, it required the customer to sign up an account which is not always good because some customers don't like to create any accounts (maybe they're lazy, or they don't want to waste their time??). I hope Google will has an option to pay directly by credit card without need to create an account with them.

Looked at it yes, especially now that it's available in the UK :agree: They seem to be pretty organised, after signing up they sent me a form to fill in with the company details a few days later, seems like they are interested in stopping fraudulent sellers as best they can.
Only problem is most hosting-orientated billing systems don't support it, only one or two do at the moment. Hopefully we'll see more adoption of it as it's supported more :)
empresasdehosting 04-20-2007, 09:42 PM In Which countries is this service available ?
Thanks

You shouldn't have an issue for customers signing up using google check, because 1) they either have an account with google (eg: gmail, etc) or 2) they really like your services and it's worth it ;)

Yep, I hope everything goes well!
We have opened Google Checkout account because we have had one big client who was having problem with Paypal, and they like to make payment via Google Checkout. So we will save $140/mo ($1,120 for 8 months, May->Dec) on processing fee of this single client. :stickout:

Google checkout video shows that its not necessary to sign up.

AstarothSolutions 04-23-2007, 04:17 AM Is it possible to do instant payment with google checkout? reading through the documents it strongly suggests it doesnt as you have to log in to the merchant centre but not sure if I am possibly reading it wrong - a client wants to sell "instant" access to data (no reoccuring fees)
basho 04-23-2007, 02:49 PM Thanks for the info ;)

I'm not sure where you see that in the video.
On the same page, it says:
Sign up or sign in, review your order, and you're done.
I believe that means the customer can either "sign up for a new account" or "sign in to an existing account".
In the video, it shows the checkout page with two options: log in to an existing account (box on the right), or "Create a Google Account" (section on the left).
Jame$ 04-23-2007, 06:37 PM Good stuff, need to check this out..
VINAX 04-24-2007, 02:43 AM Actually, they require to create a "Google Account" if you're still not have it yet. You don't need to signup for a "Google Checkout" account unless you want to be a seller and receive money from someone.
