Hi,

I have just installed Redhat Linux 7.1 onto my Laptop. I want to learn the sorts of things that a "system admin" would need to know.

I have installed the Gnome GUI and am getting myself around the GUI.

Now - Do sys admins in general work at the CLI? (not sure what the techy name for the Linux CLI is)

I know you guys are busy but the newbie websites don't seem to cover easy access to what I want to know.

Could you point me in general areas which I should look into?

Also is it possible to 'talk' between Windows & Linux machines on teh same LAN?

Apologies for being so newbieish.

hi,

almost all admins use the shell - the CLI for system administration.

enhancement to the CLI are mc and linuxconf -which makes things a bit easier
Hope this helps:

O yes! you can talk using TCP/IP or use SAMBA to share files and folders. :)

So would it be pointless installed KDE/Gnome? As being a sys admin you would not have these luxuries yea?
