I am thinking of hosting my site with ecommercediscovery.com. I saw he posts messages in these forums, but I would appreciate any opinions about them, experience with them by past or present users, or any other knowledge about them.
Are they reliable? How fast are they? How good is their support?
Thanks a lot!
Hi, I have posted a request on the requests forum, and got an offer that seemed very good from ecommercediscovery.com. In fact it was a suspiciously good offer.
I asked them whether there was a catch in the large ammount of bandwidth and diskspace they had offered me for the price, and they said they offered this special package only to WHT members, and that there was nothing to worry about it.
However, after making some comparisons and asking some qustions I noticed a few suspicious details. For example, the uptime guarantee I got from them was lower than the percentage that appeared on their website. And in reponse to my further inquiry, they admitted the bandwidth provider for the package they offered me was Cogent -- which is known to be problematic -- unlike their normal packages.
So in short, they did not make it explicit, and at first had even tried to hide the fact they were trying to sell me a lower quality package in terms of bandwidth and/or server quality.
In addition to that, some of their e-mails to me were blocked by my e-mail provider's spam filter, because their address appears in a list of addresses which are known as sources of Spam. Maybe this was not their direct fault, but added to the rest, it cannot be a good sign.
I have read that their customers are generally happy with their service, though. But my contacts with them gave me the feeling they are not so honest and reliable, and I would adivse you to look for a better host.

I was also offered a good deal once.
500 MB Storage Space, 8 GB Bandwidth, 1 .com domain and all the usual feartures for $65 /yearly.
I never got it though, the site didn't really draw an attraction to me and I was also a newbie back then!

Well, my direct experience and knowledge of ecommercediscovery is quite different from okok's bleak perception.
We had used ECD and were quite pleased with the service and support. Josh is a great guy and quick to respond to any issues (even if it's them annoying newbie questions).
As for problems with cogent; I have yet to see any statistical information to support the claims of connectivity problems. Most concerns over cogent are targeted towards their pricing model, which seems to attract a lot of doomsayers reports.
I would highly recommend ecommercediscovery to anyone seeking an honest and reliable provider.
Josh was indeed patient and provided detailed answers to most of my questions (except one, regarding the location of the datacenter, which I asked twice and never got an answer to), but the fact the information regarding the lower quality of connection and servers was not explained to me when I inquired for the first time about the catch in the very low price they offered me has decreased my confidence in them.
As I wrote, I know many of their customers are pleased with them, I have read a lot about them before contacting them and did not find a single bad opinion. It would be unfair not to mention that as well.
But I preferred to stay on the safer side, and to go on looking for a host which would not seem to need to be hiding information.

I'll second that Josh is a friendly guy. I had an account with him during a fiasco related to VDI (things that were out of his hands). Very polite and issued me a prompt refund even though he didn't have to.

I use them myself now, and they've moved from Cogent since to higher quality bandwidth providers, and they are a good host, with great support, and I can't say a bad thing about them.

Hi BlackCurse. You may want to keep an eye on the date of threads so that you have something recent to work with.
Try asking for suggestions in the Web Hosting Forum. Or you can get quotes from hosts in the Web Hosting Requests forum.
