View Full Version : Change HD's or not?

I've got a RaQ4r which has been in service for 2 years now....

All sites on it will be migrated to a RaQ550 as soon as Cobalt will release its new CMU. (Cobalt: SHAME ON YOU for the release date of the CMU for the RaQ550)

After that, the RaQ4r will be out of service for a month and then be filled with new sites.

It contains now 2 seagate 30GB harddisks, but were in use since 1999.

Is it smart to replace the HD's by new ones, or useless?
It's just that at this moment I can do it without loss of data/downtime...
and second: If one drive of the RAID1 fails, I can't buy another seagate 30GB drive since they aren't sold anymore :(....

What do you guys think?

Would down time cost you more that the hard disks??!

BTW, How much HD space do you sell on a 30GB drive.?

With all virtual sites loaded,
used diskspace is about ... 18GB...

So diskspace isn't the problem...

I just want to avoid data loss due to old HD's (2+ years in service) which have higher chances to crash....

Is it worth the money or will the possibility of a HD crash not decrease by replacing the drives?

Is that _used_ space or allocated << personal interest

I would buy new drives... Why? So even if one of the drives fails I know I can buy a replacement.

Allocated, but users can choose from bigger account sizes than normal 50MB or so, since HD space isn't the problem these days.

Thanks

Considering the price of disks these days it would seem prudent to replace them. Since one of the main selling points of the RaQ4r is the added benfit of the dual disks, it kind of wipes that out if you cannot then easily replace a faulty disk

I'll change them by 2 Maxtor 40GB drives
