Not too powerfull at all. k6cheung 07-09-2002, 02:24 PM CHEAP -> FDCServer.net NO QUESTION ASK. But they recently have some downtimes and my Win2K box only push out around 16Kbytes/sec. (It could just be my machine, not sure) I am going to try fastservers.net and I will let you know once I get my server setup =) scottkdi 07-10-2002, 01:49 AM FDCServer.net may be cheap but as you mentioned they have been having some outages... as of writing this http://www.fdcserver.net is unavailable. porcupine 07-10-2002, 01:58 AM not only have they been having outages, but John said he was looking for a managed solution, i think they're all unmanaged. Theres really no clear definition of "cheap managed" because theres a zillion different definitions of managed, and cheap depends on the level, along with how good the support is (which if you're buying managed, matters.). mas3000 07-10-2002, 02:06 AM Scottkdi, the reason why the site is down is because you have the link wrong! It's www.fdcservers.net - and it's up for me. But like porcupine stated FDCservers is unmanaged so I don't know why that's mentioned. Managed services vary, Rackspace would be the best, but definately not the cheapest. Guess it depends on how managed you need, interactive6.:) jayglate 07-10-2002, 02:09 AM Define cheap? $100, $200? StevenG 07-10-2002, 02:58 AM eservers.biz (I think they manage servers too) nocster.com (Manage servers) eservers.biz are great - don't know abou nocster yet but they have had good reports. mas3000 07-10-2002, 03:55 AM I know someone at a Nocster server and they said they're great. Good uptime and support although I really haven't talked to him much.:D If you'd like I can ask him for a more detailed explanation of his dealings with Nocster.:) interactive6 07-10-2002, 10:21 AM Originally posted by mas3000 If you'd like I can ask him for a more detailed explanation of his dealings with Nocster.:) [/B] Yea, please ask him what he thinks. Anyone ever dealt with Dialtone.com? .John yakov 07-10-2002, 12:52 PM Originally posted by mas3000 I know someone at a Nocster server and they said they're great. They have quite good reputation and last time I was talking to ROLANDO( sales rep at dialtone ) he offered me a price close to US$ 250 for a IBM p3 server along with hosting Controller but if yu are looking for a managed server then my suggestion is to go with either rackmy.com or Handynetworks.com Turboz 07-11-2002, 03:29 PM Could somebody define the difference between managed and un-managed??? Thanks.. interactive6 07-11-2002, 03:34 PM I think the definition of managed depends on the company correct? isildur 07-11-2002, 03:55 PM Yes, it really does depend on the company. I would say the general theme is something like: Unmanaged: The company you are purchasing the dedicated hosting contact from monitors your server and will respond to emergencies, but the administration of the system in question is entirely in the customer's hands. Managed: The company providing the dedicated hosting is also providing system administration services to your system. These admins are tasked with keeping the machine healthy, stable, efficient, sane, etc. porcupine 07-11-2002, 04:03 PM Originally posted by isildur Yes, it really does depend on the company.
