I needed a cp for hosting, so my head server technician installed this web://cp software. It is very faulty and dumb. I am now unsure of what I should do. I needed to use a good cp. One of those that offered a 30 day trial like ensim, so I could test it out, and then later purchase the license if it was good. I hardly know anything about webservers or installing anything. I was affraid to do anything because I didn't want to screw anything up. ("Downtime" is such a nasty word for me!) I was affraid that if I screwed something up, then with my very little knowlege I would not be able to fix it. I am also unsure of capatibility issues, and if installing a new cp will cause anything to become unstable or faulty.
Please help me out, I need some advice. (And a good cp) :(
(P.S. - My server technician is gone for a few months)

If you need a CP that can handle all of the time consuming admin tasks you are unfamiliar with, and you'd like to test drive it first, definitely at least give CPanel a shot. You can manage 99.999 % of your server from a web browser backend- though CPanel isn't a complete replacement for a sys admin, you'll find that you'll need your server tech perhaps 10 to 15 hours a month instead of 90.
You can get a testing license (demo license) from CPanel as well, if you go through the proper channels at http://www.cpanel.net.
If you have any more questions, don't hesitate to ask!
best wishes

oh :) I really appreciate your suggestion. Here is the thing though. I already have mySQL and pHp and all the scripts installed. I even have an FTP client. I am unsure if installing a different cp will harm anything I currently have installed.

I just now looked at the cpanel site.
June Special During the month of June 2002 we will be selling licenses for a one time fee $1400.
And this is a "Special" for last month. What a rip off! I could cover my server expenses for over a year with that much! I guess cpanel is totally out of the question. :(

Lifetime license for a piece of software that constantly updates itself, and your OS with critical security patches...... among a multitude of other things.
As CPanel grows from version 4.9 through version x.x through the next 10 years, you don't have to worry about monthly fees, ever again. Do the math.
It's your opinion, however.

From the cpanel site:
June Special During the month of June 2002 we will be selling licenses for a one time fee $1400. This includes one year of basic support, as well as free upgrades for two years, or to any newer version of cPanel 4 (whichever is longer).
It only provides updates for 2 years, not ten. I like cpanel very much, but that changes the math a bit. :)

Was not aware of that.
Now I'm beginning to realize why that particular offering didn't spawn up more than like a handful of interested peoplez.
My apologies for the misinformation.

That is quite all right. If I was to install a new cp does it have to be on a "clean" server?
