View Full Version : Good uses for idle domains that generate traffic?

I just found that one of my old projects is generating around 1700 unique visitors a month. What are some ways to generate some revenue using the already-established traffic? So far, I am considering domain parking or setting up a proxy with ads.

I've seen Sedo, iMonetize, GoldKey and NameDrive mentioned in parking threads but which one do you personally recommend due to past experiences?

Any other ideas of what to do with an idle domain that still generates a good deal of traffic?

You could run AdSense or other ads.

put up a page with some content related to your old project. add adsense to the page.

If you park it, generally, the traffic will be gone within a year. Depending on the keywords, it could be lucrative until then.

What is the subject of the project? Maybe if we know what it's about we can be more specific with details to help.

A few things to consider...

nature of the traffic, is it links? type in? search engine?
links: this traffic tends to be slowly decrease over time regardless of content but depends on location of the links.

type in: this traffic is generally stable over time regardless of content (unless you've built something that people are searching for.... instead of direct navigation ie. i own poker.com, people go looking for poker vs i made partypoker.com a popular site and people are looking for it).

search engine: this traffic can disappear very quickly.

If you are in a more stable traffic area parking can often create the most income however if you change the content and the traffic is likely to disappear keeping the content and using adsense or similar is probably the best approach to monetization.

You mentioned some big parking companies there, personally, I use iMonetize and have had good experiences with them for years now. Some places are better for certain types of traffic, even feeds make a difference (yahoo vs google).

Anyone had any success stories with Sedo Parking?

Nope. They are generally bad. Low click rates, don't pay for multiple clicks.
