Morning all!

Just a quick question, I am trying to find my way round Asterisk to allow me and my family to VOIP each other (no proper telephone stuff, just VoIP).

Installed Asterisk onto a small VPS I have which seems to of gone all okay (well, I can start it and see me trying to connect to it anyway!) but its a bit confusing trying to put all the right things into the multitude of config files!!

Could anyone suggest a nice easy control panel that will allow me to (correctly) configure 2 users and nothing fancy like on hold music (that comes later!). I can then take a look at the config files and see what I am doing wrong !!

Tried to install Trixbox but that went a bit pear shaped!!

You might try just using FreePBX (which is the control panel that comes with TrixBox.)
It should help you with setting up the system to your needs.

In reality, there's only 2-3 config files that need editting to get the system up and running. I would suggest reading up on it a bit more. Config file setup is the best way to set it up, IMHO.

Thanks for the suggestion - I have editted the conf files I thought I had to, sees my line registering but won't let me dial anywhere so must of done something wrong.

Thats why I though i would have a go via a panel and then read the conf files it produces.

Next step is buying a book :o

Depending on your provider, you should only have to edit the following files:

iax.conf or sip.conf (depending on your upstream provider connection)
&
extensions.conf

All the others are just there for additional features. But the above are all you need to edit for a most basic setup.
