Hi people.
I need to make a small site which will require people on the move to fill in a form. Can WAP phones do this?
Is there anywhere I can go to find out whether the pages I make are WAP compatible, or to see what they look like?

Yes, either HDML or WML (the two prevalent WAP languages) can implement forms. The first place I'd advise you to look is Openwave.com (http://developer.openwave.com/support/techlib.html)'s developer section which has a number of white papers and developer's guides for both WML and HDML.
While you're at the Openwave site, you can also download their free emulator which will let you view and test your WAP application(s) on a generic phone interface. You should also download the emulators from Nokia.com (http://www.forum.nokia.com/main.html) and Ericsson.com (http://www.ericsson.com/mobilityworld/) if you want to ensure that your application works well across platforms.
Unfortunately you'll probably end up having to code your app in both WML and HDML if you want it to be accessible worldwide. This is a huge generalisation, but the U.S is dominated by HDML phones whereas Europe is domainted by WML phones. Sad but true.
Hope this helps,
Simon.

Hi Simon,
Thank you for the excellent info, it'll be a great starting point for me.
Many thanks.
I suppose both these languages can be written in notepad, or is there a wysiywg editor for them?

Hi,
Glad you found the info helpful :)
Either language can be written in notepad, but there are also a few WYSIWYG type editors. A good place to start is wap-shareware.com (http://www.wap-shareware.com/directory/wmleditors.shtml) which has a directory of some decent sounding shareware editors. I've always used notepad personally, so I'm afraid I can't vouch for any of those editors.
Best wishes,
Simon.
