Anyone can please reccomend any good pdf writer software products?
I am looking for an easy way to convert documents ( pictures, data sheets, word, excel ) to pdfs. There are many products around ( lower cost alternative to Adobe Acrobat ) but of what I tried so far each of them have some annoyances.

OpenOffice does this.

OpenOffice is good for office documents, however CutePDF is free and sets itself up as a printer. Any app that can print can become a PDF.

CutePDF doesn't require an entirely new office suite/app just to print a pdf, and it works with ANY app that prints.

Try FoxIT PDF (http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/rd_intro.php)- definitely, the best choice around.:agree:

PDFCreator and FreePDF both work well IMO and setup as local printers so they can be used from any app.

I'll second the recommendation for PDFCreator. That's what I used before switching to Adobe's own Distiller.

OpenOffice.org is good, but probably not the best choice if you want to convert existing MS Office documents; there's too much chance of conversion problems happening when you open the files in OOo. I've also experienced some strange font substitutions with OOo's PDF output, such as subbing Gill Sans for the OpenType version of Myriad Pro.

One important consideration here is what features you want in the final PDF files. There are some (non-free) programs that allow you to create a fill-in form in Word, then output it as a PDF that can be filled in and e-mailed from within Acrobat Reader. If you need that level of sophistication, you'll have to pay for it. If all you need is good PDF output, the PDFCreator will give it to you for free and with little hassle.

+1 for openoffice, they just released a new version as well.
