...How's the split?
Is it 50/50? or?
Also, if you launched windows hosting at a later stage, did you notice any cannibalisation, or was it pure add on business?
thanks :)

Unix hosting - 90% of customers
Windows - 10% of customers
Make you decision now.

Yea, linux has a much larger client base. I would just get one resonable windows server then get a powerful linux server.

I would say linux is the most popular among the basic webmaster. In most cases that is.

We offer both, and have sub1% of the clients using Windows.
It seems to only be selected if they specifically have an existing ASP .net application or have goten confused between what they use on their desktop and what they require at the server.

I agree, people often think that if they use windows on their PC they need windows hostinh and that is why its great that they turn to live chat and professional technical person can help them to make the right choice

Hmm I guess we're the opposite of everyone else. 80% windows, and 20% linux. There's a huge Windows market, you just have to offer the right stuff.
Regards.

Started out with both but we've always pushed Windows more and focused on it more. The market is better as compared to linux, atleast thats been our experience for 5 years. :)

While I don't sell shared we are pretty much 60/40 in favor of linux systems. Market and price them correctly based on cost and you should see a fairly even spit depending on your target market.

1 in 12 of our client servers are windows. 0 in 8 of our servers run windows. Windows is great for intranet small business use... Helm is quite popular for hosts to offer which runs on Windows.

I agree. If you market your Windows services then you WILL GET LOTS OF BUSINESS. But hands down we love FreeBSD/Linux far more. Easier to work with for sure.
